First Official Trailer for Golden Compass
Posted on by Merlyn

SpoilersYahoo were the first to post The Golden Compass trailer distributed at Cannes and it has now spread online. Running at around two-and-half minutes, audiences will be able to see the trailer in theatres with the third Pirates of the Caribbean movie, as we reported earlier. The trailer includes scenes from the earlier proto-trailer and the footage shown at Cannes as well as some new material. New Line seems keen on establishing the Lord of the Rings connection in the trailer’s opening, as the LA Times notes in its coverage of The Golden Compass at Cannes. We get our first glimpse of Bolvangar, fighting bears, and Lord Asriel’s device for opening the window.

We’ve embedded the trailer below for you to view. Post your comments, and join in the discussion on our message boards!

WOW! Looks great! But Lyra’s name is pronounced wrong, so is alethiometer! And not many daemons, and doesn’t look much like the books.

  2. Nats says:

The trailer isnt bad.. i agree however that its all too shiny.. if that was Oxford at the start… what the hell were they thinking?

But what I’m boycotting is the name… I will only refer to this film as Northern Lights and nothing else – because that was the title of the book… and it was never anything else.

But i certainly can’t wait to see it! i had tears in my eyes.. ive been waiting for this for sooo long!

  8. mindofthemasses says:

Looks great and almost perfect. Missing some of the darkness of the book.
London is too bright and the futuristic. Looks kind of like Willy Wonka.

They should try and not be so sparkly and new especially with the
    zepplins and the carriages.

It works better in the the interior shots and the great snow scenes.

    Witches are amazing!!!
Nicole is perfect for this since you can’t get anyone more glamorous.

They need to cut the ring part out of the picture for any sort of cheesiness
can be sniffed out by your average fan. The movie can run on it’s own!

  9. Jen says:

Why did they feel the need to change the title from the name of the book? No emphasis at all on the battles between the Lyra’s parents – of good and evil, questions raised on the introduction of evil into the world. Wonder how ‘Hollywood’ this movie will be. Just hope there is no happy ending but a real one.

  10. jay says:

what is the music in the trailer called

  11. legand says:

does any 1 know what the music is called in the trailer

  12. Charles says:

I went to see the film when it was released, and found that it was good, but wasn’t as good as the novel. I felt that the casting was relatively good, for instance, I loved seeing Tom Courtenay in the film. I also was especially pleased with the casting of Derek Jacobi and Christopher Lee. I, myself, am a big fan of Mr. Lee and feel that he should of been in more than one scene. To me, it was somewhat of an insult to have such talent in just one scene. Of course, the scene he was in was delightful. I think that the film did quite good. Also note, Nicole Kidman’s performance is just like that of which I imagined the character when I read the novel.
