Press Conference Report & Images

The day following the first screening of the Cannes footage of the film, The Golden Compass team attended a photocall and press conference to promote the movie. Present were producers Deborah Forte, Bill Carraro and Andrew Miano; director Chris Weitz; and the stars of the film: Daniel Craig, Eva Green, Sam Elliot and Dakota Blue Richards. We’ve placed shots from the photoshoot throughout our report – click them to enlarge; or you can head straight here to view them (and some more) directly.
After photos, the cast and producers sat down to take some questions. We will have video of the event to come, but unfortunately we were unable to record the entire event. A lot of the questions asked by journalists covered things we already knew, but here are some choice answers which were given out. The answers given are all new, so don’t be distracted by the images and not read them!

First Official Trailer for Golden Compass

Spoilers – Yahoo were the first to post The Golden Compass trailer distributed at Cannes and it has now spread online. Running at around two-and-half minutes, audiences will be able to see the trailer in theatres with the third Pirates of the Caribbean movie, as we reported earlier. The trailer includes scenes from the earlier proto-trailer and the footage shown at Cannes as well as some new material. New Line seems keen on establishing the Lord of the Rings connection in the trailer’s opening, as the LA Times notes in its coverage of The Golden Compass at Cannes. We get our first glimpse of Bolvangar, fighting bears, and Lord Asriel’s device for opening the window.

Footage Transcript and Review

Duncan and Will are at Cannes for BridgeToTheStars.net this week. Today has been a hectic day – a photo shoot and press conference for Duncan, whilst Will had the privilage of personally questioning the cast in a roundtables event. We’ll have much, much more on this later. For now, we’re going to present you with a transcript we slaved over long into the night this evening, only to be presented with the full trailer upon going online. You can now view most of the footage yourself, but not all of it is in the trailer and a transcript it useful anyway, so enjoy.
We’ve also posted a review of the footage and noted some significant elements – which also apply to the trailer.
