Amo brings to our attention that Jason Watkins is listed on his agency's website as playing a 'Bolvanger Official' in The Golden Compass movie. In addition, the IMDB gives Bill Hurst as a 'Police Chief/Captain.' It's likely that the casting of more small roles in the movie will become apparant in the near future.

A casting process that has gone through Eric Bana and Paul Bettany comes to an end: Variety reported this morning and New Line have confirmed to us that Daniel Craig will take the role of Lord Asriel in The Golden Compass movie. Craig is the current actor to hold the role of James Bond and his first film in the part, Casino Royale, is released this autumn. BttS Community Member HDM.co.il write to inform us of their second annual convention in Israel this month. The Mythopia Convention will take place on the 24th of August, in Tel-Aviv. The convention is jointly organized by the Israeli His Dark Materials community, the Israeli Tolkien society and the Harry Potter for grownups society. Speakers include various prominent Israeli lecturers such as Yeal Sela-Shapiro, the translator of the HDM books into Hebrew. You can read more about the convention on the convention website. No Paul Bettany for Compass, reports say

New Line are saying that rumours that Paul Bettany would take the role of Lord Asriel in The Golden Compass movie are false. Our source within New Line said that he can, “guarantee that Paul Bettany is not cast in this movie.” We were given to understand previously that Bettany was interested in the part, but that negotiations were stalling over fees – with New Line wanting to scale the actor's fees down for the first movie, where Asriel has comparatively little to do. This may have led to Bettany eventually turning down the role. As with all rumours, things may change – but this seems to be how things stand at the moment.
Eva Green to play Serafina in Golden Compass

Variety is reporting that the French actress Eva Green will play Serafina Pekkala in The Golden Compass movie. Her previous films include The Dreamers and Kingdom of Heaven, whilst she will play the Bond girl Vesper Lynd in the next James Bond film, Casino Royale. Green has finalised the deal for the first His Dark Materials movie, with an option to star in two sequels, if they are made.
