Play.com have listed the Original Soundtrack for The Golden Compass, letting us know the tracklist for Alexandre Desplat’s score for the film. Click here to view the tracklist in full. The soundtrack album itself goes on sale on the 10th December.
The order of the tracks may also reveal the order of events in the film too. It seems that the bear fight has been moved earlier, so the film can end with the rescue at Bolvangar.

Intrigued by the penultimate track ‘Epilogue’ could this mean there’s a snippet of the cut material (which has been moved to ‘The Subtle Knife’) at the end of ‘The Golden Compass’?
Yes, I’m also intrigued, but it would be really strange to see a snippet of the cut material…Woulb be really strange…
Maybe parts of the story have been rearranged but I don’t think the tracks on the album follow the film exactly. This would mean Lyra would rescue the children before the intercision scene, and it would seem to suggest that Serafina and Lee are introduced before John Faa.
Epilogue can also just be the end titles. A film like this has one of those nearly endless credit sequences, and unless Kate Bush is writing a song that lasts for more than 7 minutes it’s probable that there’s going to be some score over it.
I don’t think they would change the order this much…
20. The Ice Bridge??? – wouldn’t that now be in The Subtle Knife?
Yes, really strange, I suposse that now to go to Bolvalger they will use the Ice Bridge.
Soundtrack albums are almost always out of sequence from the film’s continuity, although they still could have switched things around.
*Still getting over the WOW factor of the game soundtrack* DON’T WORRY PEOPLE, I agree with hoobits, but add the fact that if Cris Weitz had announced the suspected second change in plot THIS early, let’s just say he’d be known as “an unintelligent ‘*******…'”. I don’t think he is, just read all the articles or answers of questions he wrote.
Sorry, I meant “THIS late” in the third line.
How lame does this sound (funny spoof)
1. The movie starts with Lyra staring at the Alethiometer.
2. Then she goes with Mrs. Coulter to London
3. She receives letters from Bolvangar at Mrs. Coulter’s home.
4. And plays with Roger and other street kids IN London
5. Then meets Mrs. Coulter at Mrs. Coulter’s home.
6. Lyra runs away.
7 & 8. Randomly shows snippets of the Magisterium and their fight against Dust.
9. Serafina Pekkala randomly swoops in at Lyra and meets her.
10. She flies Lyra to Lee Scoresby’s balloon and Lyra has fun.
11. Lee Scoresby lands in Trollesund and rescues Iorek
12. They go BACK south to meet the gyptians and John Faa.
13. The golden monkey swoops in and attacks.
14. Lyra escapes and rides Iorek up North.
15. Lyra gets kidnapped by Samoyeds and is brought to Svalbard.
16. At Svalbard, Lyra sees Asriel
17. She convinces Iofur (Ragnar) to fight Iorek
18. The “ice” bears fight.
19. Iorek wins the fight and departs with Lyra to Bolvangar.
20. Lyra crosses the ice bridge to Bolvangar behind, leaving Iorek useless for fighting.
21. Lyra rescues all the children and sends them south with the gyptians, who leave Lyra behind.
22. She goes BACK to Bolvangar and is about to get cut when
23. Mrs. Coulter comes in and mothers her child.
24. Then by herself, Lyra blows up Bolvangar and battles all the Tartars.

lol check out this t-shirt, some people are taking the boycott a bit further than I thought. :p
Ben/hoobits makes a very good point… soundtrack listings are almost always out of order. I mean if you look at the Harry Potter soundtracks the listing is WAY out of order…
And I don’t remember that Ice Bridge to Bolvangar either… maybe it isn’t to Bolvangar! Maybe the footage is still in the film and the ice bridge is to save Roger while Asriel is using him!! YAY! I hope so… whatever, I’m going to make myself stop fretting over this and see what it will be on Dec. 7 :).
another thing… maybe the cut footage has no score. Maybe it’s all intense explosion and confusion. Sometimes scenes like that don’t need to have a score. Also, if a track isn’t good enough on its own they will often combine two tracks to make a more interesting piece of work, or they often don’t even put the track on the soundtrack at all!
My only dissapointment thus far is that New Line or “The Movie makers” Seems bent on not allowing any samples of the soundtrack to be heard. I’m hoping that the music I hear on the global trailer is a sample.
I forgot to say in my first comment, that from all the interviews and ,articles and the trailer, I believe that this is going to be one cool movie!
Still searching and waiting for samples. What realy gets me is that there seems to be reviews on how wonderful this sountrack is, yet I can’t seem to find any links to hear samples! I guess you have to be SPECIAL to be able to get a copy before it goes on sale so that you can write a review on it.
The bridge???? What! dOes that mean we see some of the last three chapters or is it just a normal bridge… I remember seeing a long ice bridge Lyra is crossing in the Teaser Trailer and Iorek watching her from behind! Is this it??? Who knows! At leat now we get more nfo on the magisterium!!!
Yeah, the movie is gonna be Roadtrip #345882. A kid’s story: she went there, then she went there… Without proper emphasis on the lecture at the start, and the philisophical messages, the first book will make a lousy movie.
However, I can’t see how they can ruin The Subtle Knife as easily — that’s my favourite of the three. I love the interaction between the parallel worlds.
Give me a break Nick. :Anyway; for every ones information, all soundtracks of every movie that I own are NOT in order of track = scene. They will use some (not all) tracks in various parts of the movie. I just wish they will give us some SAMPLES!!! before the movie is out.
