I am so not pleased with this as it is the witches trademark, although I do kinda love her outfit.

Who are you people? Are you twelve? Maybe you are. If you are, I would suggest laying back and enjoying what the director is so generously offering. The movie looks gorgeous. Don't you understand the expansive concept of parallel universes? If we take it to heart, we may be able to accept these slight variations on our own vision made by the hand of someone else. Relax.

i would like to see her in an alternative costume.
one from an alternative universe where all material has a refractive index of 1. and i also felt this in Casino Royale and The Innocents (at least they tried in that movie.)

Book adaptations are notoriously difficult to bring to the Big Screen. Putting doubts about the costume aside for a second, this is an inspired piece of casting! Eva Green herself (for me) has a bewitching presence, so I for one can't wait!

Personally I would have cast her as Mrs Coulter rather than Serefina. A bit young perhaps but her hair's the right colour and she's got a suitably manic/evil look in her eyes. Would have been aproximately 174562 times better than frikin' Nicole Kidman!!!

Very close to how I pictured her. So I am pretty happy with the casting. I agree with others though, where is the trademark black silk? Maybe this won't be her main costume?

Also, I completely agree with CZJ as Coulter, she's much more what I pictured!

i personally think the casting is great! Eva Green is perfect for Serafina and i think Nicole Kidman has that perfect bewitching 'come hither' look for mrs. coulter.
As well I think Daniel Craig is perfect for Lord Asriel. Has that powerful dashingly handsome thing going on. I don't understand what all the fuss is about.

FYI, all-black was most likely dismissed because it would not photograph well; it would simply look like a 'clump' of clothing. Using delicate colors and textures in rich layers -- like the ones in this picture -- to me was the right choice -- they're very witchlike to me. And I think Eva Green is phenomenally perfect as Serafina.

I wish people would get over the 'haircolor' issues. It makes sense for them to allow Serafina to have darker hair, since Coulter's going to be blonde in this anyway. And it's more suitable to both of the actresses in the parts (Eva would not be as gorgeous blonde, and I think black is too harsh for Kidman -- I love the fact that her hair is cold and golden, just like her daemon, frankly)

i think that for this part, she's going to either pull it through spectacularly, or not, depending on how she reads her parts. if her voice is at all un-serious, or immature sounding, it'll ruin her whole image, but if she can pull off the serious "serafina-tone" that i for one, have been imagining, she'll do a stunningly brilliant job.

Eva makes the character Serifina look mysterious...and i think she among the witches is a mysterious one! Never mind the costume ... what do you expects a 'real witch' to wear. The black stuff is a steriotypical witch but they never wore the black outfit. I like the costume....adds to the mystery and complexity of the character!

I have to agree with Mary_Malone; pure black photographs horribly. Oftentimes in movies where they are going for a very visually rich and textured appearance on costumes (largely fantasy films), the colors we see on the screen are rarely the actual colors of the fabric. They need to use a lighter color to be able to show the constrasts and fabric textures. I do costume re-creation from the Lord of the Rings, and let me tell you, what you see on screen is nowhere near what the fabric actually looks like. Keep in mind that there is loads and loads of color correction done to a film before we see it, and these images are probably not an indication of what the color of her costume will look like on-screen. Fret not, the wardrobe department and art department know what they're doing! :)
