I love her so much here.She looks so much like my Lyra so curious and absorbed and everything about her seems spot on. I also think the sets for everything we have seen so far are perfect. Not long now!

I'm upset about Lyra. The sets are amazing, the girkis not. I've been thinking what Lyra would look like. This is not her. I have 13 pages in the last book. I'm extremley sad because I'm going to finish the books.

Even so Thor, Dakota Blue Richards has been praised as stunning in her screen tests by Phillip Pullman himself, and she is said to be a great actress (with no prior training) and this girl may have been perfect "looking" for the role and it is true they were not looking for someone with expierience, but the girl would need to be able to light up the screen with the force and fire of Lyra's character and maybe this girl just didn't have that spark. Dakota obviously does.

Hazel, I don't really like Dakota, but that's just what I think. She's just not Lyra for me. Really, I don't care how tall she is or if her hair doesn't match Coulter's or Asriel's. That's just stupid how people are complaining about tiny details, though...

Just a comment: movies and books cater to entirely different audiences through completely dissimilar channels. Books don't rely entirely on the first hardcover printing; subsequent editions are published, and if not sold can linger on the shelves. Movies, on the other hand, have much stricter guidlines for content (especially if the producers/directors want to cater to a specific rating group), and usually have one shot at the big screen then die, unless re-shown at independent theaters. So don't expect the movie to be exactly like the book (admit it--if it was, you'd probably get bored ;) but you probably won't admit it). LotR, HarryP, Narnia--none of them were exactly like the books (for the first two, the reason is obvious: time!), because no one can put the complexity of a novel on the silver screen and still garner as large an audience as is necessary to make a profit (books don't take millions to write and print, ladies and gentlemen).

Dude (Thor) we are entitle to our own opinions too, and we just happen to love Dakota for the part. I also agree with pan_Kirjava_isabelle about the cleanliness side, but I believe and have faith in the designers that they will bring out some pictures of our Lyra looking nice and scruffy soon enough! And if not, then rue me for not having a good prediction but rue THEM even more for not doing so!!

Isabelle I'm starting to form the opinion you just shouldn't WATCH the film, it'll only upset you. Some problems with DBR I can more or less understand, but I can't believe people are criticising her casting cos of her HEIGHT! It's like people have no understanding of how movies are made. What about Hobbits? Were they cast for their height?? Hugh Jackman - completely wrong build for Wolverine, but otherwise utterly perfect and easily the best thing in the films.
Films are all about visual trickery, if you go along prepared for the worst and determined to find fault then you will, but I sincerely doubt any of you will notice her height when ur in the cinema!

Dakota would likely play well for the character of Lyra if Mr. Pullman, the author of His Dark Materials, states so. I do hope that the they would make movies for the Subtle Knife and the Amber Spyglass. It is to my view that sequels are better and it should really highlight the greater events that befalls the main characters.
