Yeah, I guess it's just one of those things. Probably on video it looks great, but still shots can make momentary expressions look really weird...

This is my expirience of auditioning and working with Dakota Blue Richards:

I attended the Lyra auditions with my friend in Oxford.
We had to wait for hours to be seen but it was definatley worth it! Lucy and fiona asked us some questions and two people out of our group were taken out and asked to read some things infrount of a camera (I was one of them!).
A few days later we got a call from Charlie inviting me to a recall, on that day they narrowed the number of girls down to the last 20 (I was also one of them!) Dakota Blue Richards was in my group and we spoke a few times.
After that amazing day we had to wait a few weeks to hear if I had got another recall, I was thinking about it the whole time!
Finally we got a letter asking me to yet another!!!! I was so happy because now they had got the number of girls down to the last 8! When I arrived at the recall alot of people I had made friends in previous auditions wern't there, I felt so proud to have got to the last 8 out of 10,000 girls! We were given some scripts and we all paired up to practise our lines, me and Dakota (the girl who is playing Lyra) were together. Dakota is really nice even though I only spoke to her a few times.
After that we got a call saying well done but they had picked a girl to play Lyra. I was a bit disappointed but they then offered me a smaller part as a bolvanger child! I was so happy and we got to miss a week off school when we were filming!!!!
It was so much fun and now I want to be an actress when I grow up!

The policeman is very british looking. So (in theory) we have a New-Yorker Girl with to much money, poverty stricken coast people, and a british poliman gone modern.

I disagree about the costume designer and China. Even though I've never been to China, it's such a huge diverse place, you can't exactly call it dull. I mean why would Philip Pullman associate going to China with falling in love in the third book? =]
