Australia’s Herald Sun newspaper have an article of some interest about Daniel Craig, who plays Lord Asriel in The Golden Compass. The actor says he and co-star Nicole Kidman had great chemistry when working on the film. Director Chris Weitz calls their romantic scene in the Arctic “a great sentimental moment — a throwback to the moment Rhett Butler and Scarlett O’Hara say goodbye” in Gone With The Wind. Read more.

New Golden Compass Videogame Screens

Sega have released some fresh screens of The Golden Compass videogame, due out this winter for the main gaming consoles and the Nintendo DS. The DS screens reveal some new gameplay elements – it seems manipulating the alethiometer via the touch-screen will play a part in the DS version of the game. A multiplayer option is also shown. For the console versions, a new HUD is visible, with a marker for flicking Pantalaimon between forms. You can view all the new screenshots over at our image gallery for the game(s).

Craig and Kidman to return for sequels

The official film blog has posted two items from from the 24 August issue of Entertainment Weekly. The magazine indicates that she and Daniel Craig have both signed on to return for the next two films. Nicole Kidman comments on her role as the Magisterium’s villain, saying in the article, “The Catholic Church is part of my essence. I wouldn’t be able to do this film if I thought it were at all anti-Catholic. Of the religious elements in His Dark Materials, Kidman concedes, “It has been watered down a little.” Craig and director Chris Weitz also share their feelings about the production. Nicole Kidman is featured in September’s InStyle coverage of the coming film season for her role as the powerful and glamorous Mrs. Coulter in the Golden Compass. ‘In this lush fantasy, the Oscar winner lives in a parallel universe with talking polar bears and sorceresses. Costume designer Ruth Myers was inspired by Marlene Dietrich and Greta Garbo: “She is the most glamorous woman the world has ever seen,” she says of Kidman’s chic ice queen.’
