Weitz Withdraws as Director

In a statement released to us this evening, New Line announced that Chris Weitz would be withdrawing as director of the His Dark Materials films. “Citing the “technical challenges of making such an epic,” director Chris Weitz has exited New Line Cinema's highly anticipated adaptation of the bestselling Philip Pullman trilogy His Dark Materials, and the studio has launched a search to find his replacement. Weitz emphasized that his exit was not tied to any creative differences regarding the project, and he expressed satisfaction that New Line is planning to move forward with the script he penned for the film.” Read the Press Release. Name-A-Character Charity Auction on Tuesday

Just a reminder to those of you in the UK with money to burn – Philip Pullman, along with 30 other top authors, with be auctioning off the right to name a character in his next book, Tuesday March 30th, at the Groucho Club in London, to support The Medical Foundation for the Care of Victims of Torture.
