Iorek play memorabilia to be auctioned
Posted on by Merlyn

Alistair Petrie, the actor who played Iorek Byrnison in the stage adaptation of His Dark Materials, writes: “After the success of The His Dark Materials Poster auction on Ebay, The National Theatre kindly has given me a bear head and claw as used in the stage production of His Dark Materials to offer for auction to raise money once again for the neo natal unit at The Chelsea and Westminster Hospital. Included in the auction is the head armour I used as Iorek Byrnison each night in performance. It has been signed by the whole cast. As with the poster, these are unique pieces of important memorabilia. And we would love to raise a lot of money to help premature babies born in the Unit at the hospital.” More info on ebay.com.

From the Gutter to the Stars

The Oxford Student writes about the stage adaptation of I Was a Rat: “The Old Fire Station looks different. Ruffled posters stretch the walls, extolling local shoe-makers; merchants rub shoulders with buskers and thieves, while paper boys shout of marriage and royalty. I Was a Rat, adapted from Philip Pullman’s unorthodox fairy story, leads us back in time to the filth, noise and bustle of nineteenth century London.” Just a reminder, the show runs from the 10th-14th, at 7pm. Philip Pullman has put his monthly newsletter online for March. He talks of his battle (LINK TO OUR NEWS ITEM) to save the Oxford boatyard that inspired the gyptians in His Dark Materials; his involvement in the Oxford Literary Festival; and, yet again, assures us that he's finally beginning work on The Book of Dust. There is also a link to the lengthy lecture he gave at the University of East Anglia on religious education.
