Playbox Lyra Cast

Playbox Theatre Company, a youth stage group, have cast their Lyra for their production of His Dark Materials: the 15 years old Olivia Meguer will be performing the role. On a smaller scale than the National Theatre's epic production, Playbox are looking to, “rekindle the imagination [with the plays] so the show will use movement, aerial artistry, and some of the finest young actors aged 14-25 to grace the stage,” said director Stewart McGill. Two Northern Lights “teaser trailers”

The ever watchful Kyra has spotted a mock teaser trailer for the film adaptation of Northern Lights. It is not an official release, but it is rather entertainingly put together. The film requires QuickTime. After destroying the bandwidth of the site it was hosted on, the video is now hosted here – so the link works.

Billie Piper to play Sally Lockart

Mel alerts us that the Doctor Who actress Billie Piper will be starring as Sally in the BBC adaptation of Pullman's Lockhart trilogy. Filming on the first book, The Ruby In The Smoke begins in May, to be followed by the second, The Shadow In The North. No broadcast date has been set of yet. Read more.

Creator of the Northern Lights joins the Golden Compass team

Kyra from the forums has been working overtime and has spotted another new crew member who has just been added to the team working on the film adaptation of The Golden Compass. Jim Steel (who has in the past worked on Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, Batman Begins and Cold Mountain) is a digital compositor and will be working on “pre-visualization: visual effects: Double Negative” according to IMDb. In other words, this is the man who will be producing the northern lights! Read more.
