The ever info-full Chris sends over these new UK book covers for the three His Dark Materials novels, designed to tie in with the movie of The Golden Compass out this winter. They all feature the Lyra and Iorek poster released a while ago; with each cover tinted a different colour. You can view the covers in our coverart gallery, or click the thumbnails below.

Sweet! Now we know what the movie titles for the next two will look like! People who like to make really good fan posters can get ready!
Umm… it’s a bit weird that the front cover is the same for all three.
Wow, that is just lazy design and marketing. I am baffled… but not surprised.
I suppose they just wanted to get the movie crowd in on the rest of the trilogy… Surely they’ll change the covers as the other movies are released.
Ugh I always hate when they change covers pre-movie release. The covers always look worse. I wish they’d lay off!
… I am stunned by the sheer laziness of it.
I mean, is Iorek even in The Subtle Knife to a remarkable extent? At least use a pic of Lyra, a pic of Mrs. Coulter, and a pic of Lord Asriel, but this… geez, what a waste of paper.
Very much agreed… I thought that it was stupid to just change the color. You’d think they’d make a bit more effort.
Agreed, these covers may work for the first one, but not the other two.. The original covers depicting the compass, the knife and the spyglass were/are really cool
Is it just me or is the front cover… a scene from the first book… on all three?
srsly, what were they thinkin?
pathetic. you can’t just use the same pic for ALL three movies
Agree with all comments with one fundamental addition.
The UK title of the book is Northern Lights and NOT Golden Compass. Therefore the title appearing in the largest type with the most prominence should be Northern Lights. By all means put a little strap line saying ‘Filmed as the Golden Compass’ but it should NOT be the dominating part of the cover.
This is laziness to the nth degree.
There I really disagree… they’re trying to promote the movie, Northern Lights would confuse some people. Mentioning the original title in small print is suffice.
