Dakota Blue Richards in Snowman Row
Posted on by Will

Brighton newspaper The Argus report on a wintry incident in Dakota Blue Richard’s hometown of Hove. The paper reports that Dakota was “with a group that kicked to pieces a snowman and snow dog that brought a neighbourhood together.” Local shopkeeper Abe Restoto, outwith whose store the snowman was constructed, lamented that “”We put our heart and soul into that snowman.” He said of Dakota, “She went from cool to uncool in a very short space of time.”

The film star’s agents have responded, saying that, “It was a game that obviously somewhere along the way went awry. It was not done with malicious intent at all.”

Local residents don’t seem too upset however: most of the comments on the Argus’ website criticise the newspaper for running the story in the first place. It has been picked up by the Telegraph as well though.

  1. Shannon says:

Kind of amusing considering the stuff that other young celebrities are accused of.
    It’s bratty, but still.

  2. Aaron says:

Who hasn’t kicked over a snow man honestly.

  3. ChristyM says:

John Conrad, 27, said: “It seems kids today can’t stop being inconsiderate yobs even if they are film stars.” how stereotypical. What, so every kid wears a hoodie and goes out on the streets stabbing people? as if.

  4. Diolmhain says:

It just goes to show what exposure to such blatantly non-christian books and films will do to the youth, what would your dear old mothers think?
    On a more serious note…
Christy, I would like to quote Dylan Moran in response
“I’ve started noticing these… hoods, as i walk along the streets…. and as i walk past… i seem to instinctively slip my keys in between my two middle fingers… so i know if i hit them, I’m gonna kill ’em!”
What relevance this has i’m not sure… just wanted to throw it in there 😛
    Diolmhain out

  5. jammer says:

I can see how the makers of the snowman would be annoyed, but really now. Is this newsworthy? No. Kids will be kids. It’s an effing snowman.

  6. seanie says:

    that’s lyra fer ya.

  7. Wendy says:

    Wow.

Do these people want some cheese with that whine?

  8. Bruce says:

don’t expect a snowman to stay up forever

  9. LOL at this [article]!!! says:

I would like to extend my heartiest congratulations whoever it was that allowed this story to be printed and sold as a news article. I can only imagine that he was either hysterically drunk at the time, or had some life-long grudge against the shop-owner and realised how insignificant and petty this “article” would make him look.

In all honesty, that man should be ashamed of himself; not only does it appear that he has developed an utterly irrational disliking for Dakota, but his claims that random people stopped their vehicles whilst passing by a shop in Essex to record on their cameras evidence of this new wonder of the world: a snowman and his snowdog, seem frankly ridiculous….an entire community working on such a massive task would certainly be forced to devote all of about 10 minutes of their life to its construction….quit
e evidently they did indeed “put their heart and soul into it”.

I can only hope Dakota has read this article, and all the comments following it. I would hate to think she actually believes anyone with even the slightest shard of sanity has lost faith in her as a result of this. Quite frankly, i dont know of many people who wouldnt indulge in kicking down a snowman in the evening with a group of friends.

Id like to end with a personal message to anyone who willingly participated in the formulation of this formal complaint against Dakota: Please, for the love of all that is worth loving…think about what an abysmal waste of time this was, think about how 99% of all comments on this story utterly rip the **** out of it, and then think about never revealing your opinions again, for as long as you live.

To Dakota herself: Please don’t take any time out of your day to do anything but laugh hysterically at these people and their tragic existences. You were an absolute diamond in the film, I frankly can’t envisage a more accurately portrayed Lyra, especially by an unknown actor. I wish you the best of luck in all your future enterprises, and if ever you feel like kicking down a snowman again, you have the undying support of both myself and the wholly overwhelming majority of everyone who have read and commented on this utterly despicable attempt at degrading your image.

I whole-heartedly concur…and I’d very much like to be introduced to anyone who doesn’t, so as to hear a reasonable explanation for why this lucrative shopkeeper should receive anything other than scorn (and maybe a few lashings :P).

  10. Jill says:

How lopsided things can be in this world.

You cast aspersions on a girl’s character for kicking a snowman. And who’s crying? A 40-year old man. Go figure. Meanwhile, somewhere else in the world, some young “stars” are flashing things that ruin everybody’s else lunches and doing things that endanger other people.

    Woopdeedoo.

  11. Ethan says:

Bet you anything the man is catholic and therefore hates the story of HDM (ps I Love HDM)and wanted to make the star seem to be a bad person really who does that to a 13 year old REALLY!

And honestly the media is one huge bloody exaggeration I am sure it wasn’t all that it was made out to be and still she’s 13 com on give her a break she has just as much right to have fun as anyone else look at the others who were with her we don’t even know their names the only reason this is such a huge issue is that she is famous for her role in The Golden Compass (Northern Lights)

lastly its a bloody snowman and dog the people built and they didn’t put their hearts and soul into it they just got some stuff and a bunch of little kids put it together while the adults talked around them.

  12. Skye says:

I saw this a couple days ago, and I agree with everyone’s comments here (except the bit about the man probably being Catholic, Ethan — not necessary).

  13. Aaron says:

They seem to be putting all the focus on her. If I read it right there was a group of kids. Oh well.

  14. Kiwi Mc I says:

that has to be one of the stupidest articles I have ever read, must have been a slow news week KIDS KICK DOWN SNOWMAN hahaha what the hell, as for Dakota I’d say she was perfectly cast as Lyra

  15. Will says:

‘Tis very silly. The snowman would have melted within the day at any rate.

I’m jealous they got good enough snow in the first place to make the snowman, especially down on the south coast.

  16. Christopher says:

    I haven’t…

  17. Kieran says:

wow whats the next story gonna be?

Dakota refuses to finish her peas?
Dakota forgets to flush the toilet?

honestly, is there really nothing else going on?

  18. Kiwi Mc I says:

Breaking news tip, Dakota eats sweets before dinner

  19. conor says:

NOOO! the snowman! the poor poor snow man!!

WHY DONT WE THINK OF THE SNOW MAN!!

    they have feelings to!

how would you like if your just melting there minding your own buisnes.. then comes a group of killer children, with hoodys, knifes, and listening to rave all come in and start killing the snowman!

why why! why would they do that to the 40 year old man, with not enough a life so he has to put is “heart and soul” into a snowman that was gna melt later on! just four attention!

    WHY!

  20. Christian Smith says:

I strongly object to Dakotas media representatives comments and the people who blidly agree with the statements that were made in her defence. With a big smirk on her face she said “what would you do if i kicked the snowman?” She then proceeded to kick the snowdog and snowman with her friends who walked off laughing at the mess they had made. There was 100% mallicious intent and it spoilt the happiness that had been bought about by the snowman. This girl is obviously not a nice person.

Livingstone road is not always the cheeriest of places, but for one day you could see the happiness it bought us.
    Thanks Dakota

  21. Ethan says:

Hey Smith com’on Shes 13 give her a break i know plenty of people who would have done that and they are all nice people just because she kicked down a snowman is no reason to declare she isn’t nice

  22. mark scoresby says:

    Advice
    Don’t jump to conclusions

Nobody can be 100% sure what was going through her head

And whats this thing that catholics hate HDM,I’m a catholic and I know plenty of HDM fans that are catholic too

  23. miz says:

What a little bitch. I would never have done that at 13. Being a kid is no excuse for being a jerk.

  24. Chris says:

I saw the whole thing happen, and actually everything that the paper said happened, people did stop their cars to take pictures, one thing the papers didnt print, was the 4 girls were shouting ” what are you going to do” about 3 times when the makers were telling them to leave the snowman alone, also the papers left out that it had only been finished 1 hour before it was kicked down.
I know snowmen melt but they must last longer then 1 hour.
she is nothing but a stuck up spoiled bratt

  25. Lewer 1 says:

wtf? dude, when i was thirteen, we put a snow man on a sled and pushed it off the roof. what the hell is wrong with a little snowman destruction in our lives.

‘she is nothing but a stuck up spoiled bratt’

wow, how articulate, i can see you put a lot of thought into that. i doubt you saw it. you are probably some moron with nothing better to do with your life then diss people better off then you

  26. Foulksy says:

1: Why are people building snowman now????

    2: THATS LYRA!!!

3: Out of all the happenings around the world this is all of a sudden important????

  27. Ethan says:

its “so important because she if famous now if she hadn’t been Lyra no one would care but famous people get no privacy at all.

And seriously people its a —-ing Snowman who really cares that much this is just the media blowing the whole thing out of preportions.

  28. Shady says:

REALLY!Snowman, hahaha i have destroyed lot worse thing at
my FOURTEEN!C`mon we all need some fun,no matter how we
    act.I wasn`t a fool then,i was just kid

  29. krebbe says:

It just goes to show, there snow messing with Lyra.

  30. Nightshade says:

Man, WHAT A BIG LIE! Those liars just made that all up about Dakota Blue Richards. I don’t belive it, and this bogus story has not harmed the way I see Dakota Blue one bit. Dakota, if you happen to be reading this right now, keep in mind that I am still a diehard fan of yours. Just forget the fact that I am wearing toilet paper on my head as a bandana, and take me seriously. I don’t care what they say. Good luck in your next sequel!

    Sincerely Yours,
    Captain Will Halloway.

  31. Nightshade says:

Oh, and Cristian Smith, I got something for you, too. Screw you!

  32. Fred says:

It was just a snowman It was going to melt eventually. It isn’t really that big of a deal. I don’t support what she did, but it isn’t a big deal. And if Dakota hadn’t been in The Golden Compass then this wouldn’t be a big deal, and people wouldn’t be making a big fuss over this. I thought she was great as Lyra in The Golden Copass!

  33. smiffy says:

honestly! it’s only a snowman-if it was on public property-which i gather it was-i would have kicked it in as well-then there’s some people who put videos on youtube of different ways to kill snowmen-where’s their mention in the papers?

    still, it was unconsiderate.

  34. smiffy says:

sorry for double post, but i just thought of something that happened to my dads friend-he worked at warbutons and one person asked why their bread was 82p at asda and 83 at tesco. the reply was something like this-

“Look, we’re running out of coal, oil and gas. People are dying in Iraq and Afghanistan because of the war, and thousands of people are dying across the world every hour due to lack of the stuff we have. The whole planet is warming up, California is catching fire all the time and loads of people have no home. So all this is happening, and you’re complaining about a 1p price difference? Get a life!”

I just wish whoever said that was at that guy’s house-the one who complained to the tabloids about the snowman getting kicked in-when he complained.
