Chance to Appear in Pullman Film
Posted on by

The producers of The Butterfly Tattoo are offering to chance to appear on screen in the movie adaptation of Philip Pullman’s novel. Friday sees the filming of a large ballroom scene where the principal characters first meet, and “150 to 250 extras” are sought. The Oxford Mail reports that, “Men and women aged 18 to 30 are needed to act as guests at the ball, with women wearing ball gowns or full evening dresses and men wearing tuxedos or tailcoats.” Production assisstant Lew Fryer states that, “All extra work is unpaid, but food will be provided. This will be a very exciting shoot to be involved in, especially for people who would like to get involved in the film world. It’s a great way of learning more about the industry and making good contacts.”

If you’re interested in attending, you can email tbtextras@googlemail.com with your age, phone number and a photo of yourself in what you will be wearing.

“are offering to change to appear on screen”
    You mean offering a chance?
“and a photo of yourself in what they will be wearing.”
You mean in what you will be wearing?

Other than that, very exciting. Wish I was old enough.

    me too! but i’m not… 🙁

I would have loved to do this but saw it too late (on the Friday – I’m not quite an Oxford local). I have the perfect dress for it too! Did anyone go/does anyone know if it will be repeated??

Unpaid? They’re having a laugh! Anyone who has done extras work will know it is tiring, thankless work. Sometimes the thrill of being involved is a compensation but you still deserve to be paid for it. Don’t encourage this shabby treatment of extras, don’t undervalue their contribution, demand a fair wage!

    @ above
Do you know anything about the production of this movie? It’s extremely low budget. Being involved -is- the compensation for Pullman’s fans.

  6. Dukeleto says:

    @ Skye
I know something about movies, in general. I’ve worked as a movie extra and you could make the same argument for ANY film property with a fanbase, it is WORK and people deserve paying for it.

  7. Skye says:

Alright, I see your point, but I really don’t think you realize how little of a budget the movie has. As I see it, the -only- way they can have large group scenes is with unpaid extras.

i always love satin Evening Dresses because of the glitter effect of this fabric-*.
