MTV have posted the second part of their Q & A session with the director of The Golden Compass, Chris Weitz. This time, Weitz answers questions on portraying the relationship between daemons and humans on-screen without the crutch of narrative exposition (difficult); the use of the term “golden compass” in the finished film (limited) and Philip Pullman’s involvement in the production (extensive).
Weitz reveals the length of the movie will be around two hours, noting his dislike of an “inflationary trend” in movie-length. In addition, Yahoo are listing the movie at 1 hour and 53 minutes long, with Brazilian distributor PlayArte echoing. Weitz does however seem to want to leave the door open for a more extensive cut of the film later on: “If New Line is interested I could see doing a version of “The Golden Compass” which goes into more depth (and length); I reckon this would be of real interest to fans of the book and people who like the film.”.
