New Line to launch The Golden Compass at Cannes
Posted on by Will

New Line will be making a huge push to promote The Golden Compass at this year’s Cannes Film Festival in May. Following a similar route to Lord of the Rings, footage of the movie will be shown to selected journalists and distributors, with much of the film’s cast present – Daniel Craig and Nicole Kidman are planned to attend. The event will mark New Line’s 40th anniversary as a studio, so should be a big one.

This reminds me of when Peter Jackson showed the Moria sequence from Fellowship in Cannes. We all wanted so badly to see this footage and were so eager to read reports of what it looked like.Hopefully we can get some good writers to describe the footage for us.

  8. vifetoile says:

This ought to quell people who fear that the Golden Compass will be the new Eragon.
(Now if only I lived in France…)

  9. Silverfist says:

All this recent news points to the one fact that a lot of people and companies think that the movie will do great! Woohoo! 🙂 Also it opens right next to my birthday!

    people listen to this…….
….i was in a cafe today having coffee with my friends from school…
there was these two men on the next table and they were talking about books…….
    one mentioned his dark materials..
    i listened intently……..
the other mentioned that is was going to be a film and i already knew that but then they said that it is too be more popular than LOTR films and it had a chance of winning more awards than LOTR
it is to be a very popular film…
there is more but i can't be bothered to write more……..

  13. aimee says:

let's not get our hopes up too high, but honestly i liked hdm more than lotr.

    they are completely different too.

pullman let the story write itself.

tolkien took control of his story and characters creating a world, with histories, creating languages etc…
LOTR is more comparable to Eragon.

    HDM is more comparable to…nothing

  14. Alewyn says:

HDM is comparable to a lot of things, we just like to think that it's superior to all else.

    Cannes…that's excting 🙂

Also, has anyone seen Donnie Darko? It reminded me of HDM

  15. looks absolutely amazing. I hope we will be able to dress up and entertain before the show. I’ll be great
