Blonde Serafina & Filming Tidbits
Posted on by

Eva Green begun shooting her scenes as the witch Serafina Pekkala today in London. She will be reportedly be playing Serafina as a blonde. Thanks to the lovely Mariana of EvaGreenWeb. It should also be noted that Nicole Kidman finished her scenes at the end of November. Filming as a whole is scheduled to end late January.

  2. Slow says:

    what the HELL.
Honestly, hair is the easiest thing to get right. I know it shouldn't matter that much, and it's not that big of a deal, but then why's it such a problem to get it right?!

  4. Vaka says:

why is hair color such a big deal? personally I'm more interested in the news that filming will end in january…maybe that means a trailer's coming soon. 🙂

  5. Willl says:

She's blonde in the books for heavens' sake!

  6. Mr Anderson says:

    lol ahahah

No she wasn't, her hair was teh green!!1

    [insert irrational complaint here]

  7. orange says:

grrrrrrr why are they making everyone blond??? if they would READ THE BOOK *wink, wink* they could maybe attempt GETTING THE MAJOR PLOT POINTS AND CHARACTER DESCRIPTIONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  8. Penguin_Factory says:

I think Eva Green looks hot with black hair ^^

I've always imagined Serafina as being dark-haired, personally. It seems more "witchy" somehow.

  9. Amy says:

Yes, Serafina is actually blonde in the book! (although I imagined her dark haired too):
"There…the witches assembled. Serafina Pekkala sat in the center, the crown of little scarlet flowers nestling among her fair hair." (The Subtle Knife, p. 49 of Knopf edition)

  10. ۞۞۞۞۞ says:

    I WANT TO SEE PICTURES!

  11. Witch-girl says:

Blonde! Serafina! Oh, thank goodness! :crying:

Yes, pictures…I believe we'd all love to see pictures as soon as possible, but that'll of course happen in its own due course.  Right?

  12. Witch-girl says:

I always imagined the witch Serafina Pekkala with pale, quite long and faintly waving blonde hair, even though I knew beforehand that she was blonde in the book. 😉

    *looks around, suddenly very afraid*

  13. Adiam21 says:

    Yeah,yeah,yeah.Thank God a blonde Serafina.Finally, good news 🙂 🙂 🙂

  14. Hmm says:

It's kind of funny to see people complain about her hair color, saying why can't they follow the book, when in the book her hair IS blonde.

  15. Mad girl says:

OH MY GOD. How steriotypicle is that. God everyone who is supposed to be pretty has to be blonde. NOOOOOT True. They really need to read the book she has dark hair.

  16. Adiam21 says:

Now,I only can speak for myself and I find dark-haired people prettier. So I was not also enthusiastically when I saw Mrs. Coulter is blond, just like Daniel Craig.
But if they give at least to one character, in this case Serafina, the right haircolour, nevertheless, we can be glad. Believe me, I also don't think it's fantastic to see everywhere blond stars.

  17. Mr Anderson says:

Mad Girl, I think it is you who really needs to read the book. Serafina was discribes as having fair hair.
In fact the only person so far who has the incorrect hair style or colour is Marisa.

I should start a tally on irrational and ill informed comments.

  18. Sarah says:

Everyone does seem to be getting obsessed with the hair in this film, yet so far the only hair colour which has been completely changed is Mrs Coulter's. She is dark haired in the book, but will be blonde in the film. Both Lyra and Serafina are supposed to be blonde, that's stated quite clearly in the books. As for whether Lyra's hair is curly or not, that depends on how you view certain passages in the book, but she will be in the film and I can live with that.

  19. Witch-girl says:

Yeah, I've always found dark-haired people to be quite a lot prettier than your average blonde, as well, and I've always seriously wished that I had a good head full of dark or black hair to go with my naturally near-black eyebrows… 🙁

  20. Ogunwe says:

Yes Seraphina WAS A BLONDE, as was described during the Witches Council.

Yes,everyone is entitled to be stupid, but some just abuse the privilege.

  21. Ashe says:

Not sure if this is official but I was checking the HDM board at IMDB and someone posted up a picture of Daniel Craig as Lord Asriel. Here's the link!

  22. jesssia says:

Mad Girl, i think it'd be breaking with stereotypes for a witch to be blonde rather than dark haired.

  23. Vaka says:

Nice find Ashe, he definitely looks pretty Asriel-ish there if you ask me.

  24. Alewyn says:

awww i'm still in love with daniel craig via casino royale. i think he looks amazing in that pic, very rugged and asriel-ish.

also, they're done at the end of january, eh? so i guess by march we'll have a trailer.

  25. Witch-girl says:

Ah, Daniel looks lovely there, in that picture!

  26. Annabel says:

Serafina in the books is described as having "fair" hair, which means light brown or blonde. Eva green is still going to look gorgeous whatever the hair colour, lol.

Do NOT like the asriel picture… beard??? Where in the books does it say he has a beard? Actually I remember Therold mentioning Asriel's "shaving-mug". Therefore Asriel shaves. Therefore he has no beard. Hmph.

  27. Amy says:

Besides Serafina being fair-haired in the book, her hair colour is not bizarre or anything: she comes from Northern Europe or Russia right?.

  28. Mr Anderson says:

Several of my friends have beards, and they shave. In order to maintain a beard you need to shave, dear. The hair will simply stop growing if you ask nicely.

As far as I am aware, Pullman does not describe Asriels facial hair. Therefore you cannot automatically assume that he did not have a beard because it is not mentioned. By that logic, Asriel had no legs.

I find it utterly fascinating how preposterous these complaints are getting.

  29. Willl says:

Pullman doesn't even describe physical attributes much; he's not one for introducing characters with "a tall man with blonde hair entered." It's more a drip-drop here and there, which is why I think people get confused. The first mention of Serafina's hair colour isn't even in the first book!

  30. spot says:

Eva Green is a natural blonde. she just dyes her hair because she thinks it suits her personality more. 😉

  31. Lord Roke says:

I can't imagine how Eva Green will look in blond hair; I was so accustomed to seeing her have black, that viewing her for the first time in blond will startle me. Hopefully it looks natural.

  32. Witch-girl says:

REally? Eva Green's a natural blonde? She's such a uniquely pretty lady, I think. 😉

  33. Falkor says:

On the official site, there's a picture of Eva Green as Serafina. I don't know if this is old news, I haven't been to the site since I first read the trilogy some time ago. However, in the aforementioned picture, Green is more certainly NOT blonde. Apologies again if this has already been stated/discussed.

  34. Richard Harris says:

I guess this thread is old but just in case people haven't seen yet Serafina will be dark-haired in the movie. Go to http://www.goldencompassmovie.com/ and click through the production photos (right arrow under the round image viewer). The fifts or sixth photo is Serafina.

  35. silvertongue says:

eva green is so pritty .. will hair colour change that? hmmm but i always imagined her with dark brown hair 🙂
