Variety have an interview with Deborah Forte, the New Line producer who optioned the film rights to His Dark Materials way back in 1996. “It's been a long road getting here,” Forte admits. “There were lots of opportunities to do 'His Dark Materials' before this, but it would not have been the film I wanted to make. It would have been smaller, and would not have had the same level of talent.” Variety say, “Pullman himself has remained closely involved with the project, visiting the set and helping out with script advice.” Read more.

Interesting… From that piece I can definitely see her commitment to the books, if nothing else.
As long as Mr Pullman is happy, so am I.
NO ONE knows more about how these books should translate on to the screen than the man himself. Us fans like to think we know best but we're only usually interested in our own personal imagery and we get mad when we see things that don't fit our ideas. Mr Pullman is very flexible about 'insignificant details' (he wanted Samuel L Jackson as Lee Scoresby). So I'm guessing he's more concerned about the story itself.
It doesn't give much info except that she's very dedicated and looks into the future and gambles a lot
Nicely summed up, Alewyn. 😉
