The young Ben Walker is to play Roger in the first His Dark Materials film. Walker's major role to date has been in Sweeny Todd, opposite Ray Winstone last Christmas on the BBC. He has light brown hair and blue eyes.

When i initially saw him i thought Oh no, he's too young. But i can imagine him acting well and portraying a great Roger, age aside. I think he's perfect xD

Once again, people are over-reacting and hissy-fitting because an actor doesn't fit THEIR idea of what the character should look like. Only Mr Pullman himself really knows what the characters should look like and EVEN HE is flexible. HE WANTED SAMUEL L. JACKSON FOR LEE SCORESBY FOR GOODNESS SAKES. So I wish everyone would reserve harsh judgements until AFTER they see the end product.

I think that with just a little work – different hair, some dirt on his face 😀 – he can be a perfect Roger.

It was a nice surprise to see Ben as Roger on film as I used to teach him Music (where he was top of the class). Great boy but was often absent due to filming commitments.
