  1. BantamBuyer says:

Yet another good choice made by the production team. It's all looking good so far:smile:

  2. Penguin_Factory says:

So why haven't we seen Lyra yet?

He looks a lot younger than I had imagined Roger to be, although I suppose he'll be older by the time the movie actually comes out (assuming that's even a current photo).

And uh, is that a typo or is Roger really going to be in the first movie? I've got no objections either way, but I wonder how they'll fit him in?

  3. Willl says:

The plot of the entire first book revolves around him.

  4. Penguin_Factory says:

Wait, I'm thinking of Will, aren't I?

Ah, I'm an idiot. This guy looks perfect for Roger, pretty much exactly as I always imagined him. I love the casting for this movie 😉

  5. Galariel says:

He does look young. But maybe Dakota looks young also.

  6. hoobits says:

Good choice. Looks Roger-ish. I heard he was decent in the Sweeny Todd thing. Looks like someone Lyra could easily both love and boss around.

  7. Par says:

Wow..looks exactly like the Roger I've been imagining!

  8. Bethan says:

    he looks way too young.
    *is not happy*

  9. Mockingbird says:

I never imagined the characters' looks, but if I had, Roger would look just like this.

    This boy is perfection.

Bethan, the photo is probably a few months old at least and also the movie is realeased next year. At this age, kids grow so fast, he'll look much older by the time the movie is released.

  10. Mockingbird says:

Um, do you think we ought to be posting his CV like this? His telephone number and address are on there. He probably wanted exposure before but now that he's in HDM, I wonder if we should facilitate the stalkage…

I would cut that top bit out of the pdf…

  11. General Veers says:

Hmm, looks a tad young but we will see …

  12. Galadriel says:

    Makeup works wonders.

  13. Alewyn says:

    He's so very…..small

  14. gogz says:

I'm in this film coming out so I'll get to meet him!!!!
    Hes so cute and tiny!!!!

  15. g says:

uhh, there seems to be a lot of confusion between Roger & Will. Roger is the boy who get's sacraficed at the end of book one. I think he looks perfect. And we haven't seen any pics of Lyra yet because she is a newcomer… this Ben has been on film before

  16. rory says:

he is cute! looks like a great roger to me!

but howcome we get to see him and not lyra?

  17. oiiiiiiiiiiiiiii says:

why are people complaining that he "looks too young." He looks to be about 11 or so…hmm… oh! isn't that around the age he is supposed to be in the book!?
or did you imagine him and lyra to be in their 20's in the books? jeeeez. i'm so glad people like bethan aren't producing this film.

  18. nlsnas says:

i don't know why but i always imagined Roger to be dark-skinned…this actor looks the part though i suppose. i really hope they find a good Will!

  19. the truth says:

ugh, I really hope that Dakota and Will don't look this young.

  20. HDM Head 24-7 says:

age and look wise, I assumed Roger was always a year or so younger then
    Lyra

  21. hoobits says:

Folks, this could be an older picture. Even if it is a year old, he could have grown. Kids do that.

  22. Bex says:

I saw Sweeny Todd and he was really really good, a natural on screen.

  23. shannon says:

i think he looks great as roger, yeah, i know he looks about seven in the picture, but like some1 said, how long ago was it took?

  24. MCH says:

He's so cute! I wanna adopt him! 🙂

  25. Adiam21 says:

@ oiiiiiiiii So there is freedom of speech and thank God there are people also think before they write. Of course the photo can be older, however, the people simply see the photo here and discuss this. I wished people like bethan would do the film, they would at least know how it feels as a fan and what a fan expects. The film maybe, would be better, than now with the current persons responsible.

  26. Mockingbird says:

At Aidan; I agree with you on the first part but not on the second. Chris Weitz is a fan. He knows how fans feel and what fans expect. He is also an employee of New Line, and knows that he has to satisfy their expectations as well. It's a little bit ludicrous to think that Bethan or anybody else here could do a better job unless they happened to be professional directors, with the support of a big budget studio behind them…

  27. Elanor says:

Mmmmm… I think he looks awful… =) Roger must not have such a stupid face.

  28. mogglemoose says:

NOOOOO! HE LOOKS NOTHING LIKE ROGER! face= wrong shape!
    hair= too neat!
    teeth= too big!
ONLY SIMILARITY IS HAIR AND SKIN COLOUR! NO, NO, NOOOO! (unless they use a LOT of makeup)

  29. Adiam21 says:

@ Mockingbird Sorry,my name is Adiam not Aidan. Of course a big budget puts ahead but nobody gets the chance, unfortunately. If Cris Weitz is a fan then I do not understand why he does so many mistakes. I have no problem with it,if I has seen the film and it was good,to admit I was very, very wrong. But at the moment I am to the opinion, neither the changes in the script nor the choice of the actors are good.I wait, actually, only for Lyra and Will,if they are well chosen I will owe God. Do not misunderstand me please, I would like to attack nobody here. I wish I could be glad, like all the others, with every news. But as you have already written you agree to me at least with the first one.I am very curious on the result. You will see the film probably former than me because I only must wait on the synchronisation, you lucky ones.

  30. Katie says:

i personally think that rodger needs to embody innocnese, therefore. I think this kid looks perfect.

  31. Dasha says:

Geez. You'd think from some of the comments here that they cast some fugly 2-year-old. And you wonder why they haven't released a photo of Dakota yet!

  32. Skye says:

All of this news is like icing on the cake. Except we don't have the cake yet…
And eating just icing tends to make me ill. 😉

  33. Rik says:

    Will,
What are you getting for not posting a pic of Dakota? Why is no one able to shoot a picture of her doing a scene or waiting around, or perhaps a school foto?
    What's going on?

    Adios,
    Rik

  34. randomperson says:

I agree with rik. I NEED to see a pitcure of Dakota!! :crying:

  35. Witch-girl says:

The child looks to be six or seven years old, I think. :wassat: So very young.

  36. Silvertounge says:

🙂 I think he looks great. I agree with whoever said that he looks like "someone Lyra could boss around." I think he's perfect.

Now we just need a picture of Dakota…They're killing us!

  37. Lizzietiffon01 says:

    🙂 🙂 🙂
YES!!! He is perfect 4 Roger! Really innocent, sweet and loyal! Cute as well!
Even if he does look too young, it shows Rogers young perfectly. 🙂
You can tell he'll be very determined and a brilliant actor! Hey, this looks a lot like somone i know………….

  38. Sarah says:

Mockingbird and anyone else worried about 'stalkage' – the address and phone number are that of his agent. PFD is one of the biggest and best in the business, so don't worry about that.
Wait until you see him in costume and makeup before deciding if he's too young.

  39. JV says:

Ah I'm sick of everyone winging about not seeing Dakota. You do realise her life has changed forever, or it will change as soon as we know what she looks like. Rather than having the quiet enjoyable life of anonymity that we all take for granted as soon as people can recognize her, they won't be giving her a moment's peace. Think of Mark Hamill or Elijah Wood, and how many annoyingly eager fans have come up to them bugging them for autographs and asking questions they don't know the answer to. Think of almost any famous person and how they're stalked by paparazzi, their lives meticulously ridiculed by tabloids and their ignorant readers and unable to go out in public without being followed by a multitude of excited people. They can't enjoy any peace unless they get far away in a cave somewhere in the mountains of a country you've never heard of. That is the life Dakota is going to have now, and while their parents are delighted for the oppurtunity for her daughter, they are also aware of what consequences it will bring. That's why they don't want a picture released. They want her life to be normal for as long as possible, so she'll be able to remember better years from now. So please, give them breathing space for the love of Lyra, give them a chance, give them time. They'll reveal her to the world when they see fit. LEAVE THEM ALONE! (…for now )

  40. rory says:

tell us how you REALLY feel, JV.
just kidding. i agree with you, but a peek before the movie comes out would be nice.

  41. Tim says:

All we want is a picture, nothing wrong with that. Sure there's gonna be some crazy fans, you can't stop that, but a pic might calm the fans down.

<<You do realise her life has changed forever, or it will change as soon as we know what she looks like. Rather than having the quiet enjoyable life of anonymity that we all take for granted as soon as people can recognize her, they won't be giving her a moment's peace.>>

That's the price you pay for getting into the movie buisness.

  42. Willl says:

    Rik,
I'd love to be sitting on a stockpile of photographs of Miss Richards, but the simple fact is that none seem to have been taken yet. We get our photos from helpful fans who happen to live near the areas of filming, and naturally their access is limited. Those professional outfits – see the photos of Kidman the other day – may have been asked not to publish photos of her of course. (another factor is that papers will be more interested in Nicole Kidman anyway)

  43. Witch-girl says:

Yeah, the boy's still quite perfect, now that I truly do think about it, even though I said he looked a bit too young earlier. 🙂 Someone mentioned that I should look at him in makeup and costume before I decide that he really is too young, and I think that's most likely right.

  44. Azeria says:

@ Penguin_Factory, um, because Roger is in the first cook perhaps?? Will is the one in second and third one. This is Lyra's friend from Oxford.
@ the truth, It always said in the books that Lyra looked younger than she was. At Bolvanger didn't she say she was 9?
Though Dakota is 12, so she shouldn't look as young as this guy does in that photo.

  45. mysterygal says:

he does look younger than i expected and he dosent look how i imagined but if phillip pullman thinks he's good than thats OK with me!

  46. KittyKat: says:

ohh…that is so very very annoying…he has less freckles in the zoom in! BTW, nobody ever badmouth Bethan, the one person I would actually TRUST to do anything related with this film.
Unless she didn't cast me as Lyra. 🙁

  47. Alewyn says:

I just noticed something really awesome: my cousin left for a year studying in Oxford today. They're still filming in Oxford…right?

  48. mysterygal says:

WAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!! :crying:Im dying of impatience to see a pic of Dakota!why do we have a pic of him instead of lyra\dakota!!!boo hoo….(not that its good to see a pic of him though, its just that dakota is the main character and there's no pics!)

  49. Muaethia says:

Ok, so he doesn't look very old, or anything like the Roger I imagined even. By the time they've done with filming, he'll look a lot older and much different with stage makeup etc. Plus, a good actor, even a young one, can change to such an extent when they play a character the physical apprearance doesn't really matter.

  50. MCH says:

Muaethia: That's a really good professional attitude – well done! It makes a nice change for someone to express a valid opinion like that without bad-mouthing other people's opinions at the same time. Although I probably wouldn't be quite as in favour of it if I didn't agree completely with you myself!
