i'm confused. if hollywood has been 'long accused of promoting Godless films' how can it 'put it's faith in holy films'?

I believe the very point of that sentence is to point out that there's been a change…
Does this mean they are NOT going to cut out the religion aspect of the stories?! That would be awesome.
They were never cutting out religious aspects of the story. Weitz quit because he simply wasn't up to directing a big movie like HDM. It's rather annoying to see these old myths still being spread. Phillip Pullman already addressed the issue here:

To be honest, it's a nonsense article, just rhetoric. But it was relevant to HDM so I posted it. TDC, HDM and The Wicker Man are all fairly anti-religious.
