I honestly do not think that Dakota is the right Lyra.
I think she's a decent young actress.. lots of promise for the future, but as Lyra? Completely and utterly wrong.

Beautiful poster. When I first saw Dakota, I thought she was wrong for Lyra, but the more I see of her the more I think she might be just right.

Pan is so cute! He looks so real, and so full of personality! I can't wait to see the film. I'm going to withhold comment on her until I've seen it, having said that I trust Pullman entirely!

Pan is great, but I think he should be posing more as a wildcat than an ermine or ferret. I think it shows Lyra's nature better. I was rather disappointed when Pan took the final form as a Pine marten... What does that say about Lyra anyway?

Isn't the background supposed to be Jordan College? (And it's not how I pictured Jordan at all) Then why is she wearing the frilly Coulter dress. I like the picture, but not on that background.

yeah im a bit disappointed bout pan often being depicted as an ermine or wahtever, in waht ive seen of the film - i remember lyra asking pan if he gets any hints as to waht hell settle as, and hes like no . bt surely the film contradicts this coz hes constantly a pine marten as it is ?!

i think dakota is a good lyra :D i wud ahve ahd her with scraggly blonde hair as opposed to ouright curls, but i think if shes good enough for pullman shes good enough for me :P

The background is Christ Church College in Oxford. I know they used the college as a set for Jordan. That picture doesn't really show it, but the college is perfect. Very old and Oxford-y.
As for Dakota, she looks amazing. The perfect Lyra.

Everyone who's saying that Pan being an ermine a lot sucks clearly didn't read the books very closely, as ermine is described as one of his favourite forms. Also, if you thought that a wildcat is a more appropriate daemon for Lyra, you also didn't read the books very closely.... And p.s. no one cares about what you pictured things as or the subtle nuances that you have problems with for no reasons... These posters are awesome.

Well said, Silvertongue. I couldn't agree more. Everyone should be grateful that these films are being made in the first place, and then when you look at all the previews, it looks like they're doing a great job as well.

Not seen the film yet, but Pan looks like a sable ferret. Ermine are white, or a solid color, but of course I related to the Ferret shape better as I have 3 of them. However, Ermine are part of the weasel family too, so it all works for me.

Just saw (on IMDb) that Pan is being voiced by Freddie Highmore. He's young, which, while not how I imagined Pan's voice (it's an older, 20-something on the audio book), makes sense once you see his posture here: Pan is obviously very young and it's conveyed well.
Personally, I've always thought daemons were supposed to be voices of reason, so making Pan voiced by someone the same age as Lyra seems sort of ... counter-intuitive to me, imho.

the film is really good and the characters and the daemons pan was played by Freddie Highmore. Lyra is a strong girl who can stand up for herself... But more importantly stand up for her friends. I think Lyra's character is a bit of a tom boy I know she wears a dress. When she meets unexpected guests in the film i would take longer to get to know them. also the fighting i would not do it i would just scream ahhhhhh!

I loved acting Lyra in 'the golden compass'! I was so excited when i got the part and also when i met famous actors like Nicole Kidman and Daniel Craig! I also thought that freddie(Pan) was amazing!

I loved meeting U too Dakota and it was fun working with U. the outcome of the film was not as i expected, much better. please answer me dakota and maybe we can get to know each other better (as a person not as a character)

RICHARDS IS AWESOME AS LYRA. I KNOW MANY WOULD OF HAD A MORE CONVENTIONAL GIRL WITH BRIGHT BLUE EYES AND CLEAR BONDE HAIR, BUT THIS LYRA IS WHAT I THINK LYRA SHOULD LOOK AND EVEN PULLMAN DOES, SO GET OVER OF IT GUYS, PULLMAN CREATED LYRA AND HE SAID THAT THIS ACTRESS WAS HOW HE IMAGINED LYRA TO LOOK. I just got into the series (im in America) and my favorite part was with the spy-fly and when Lyra destroyed the machine. Anyway, I hope they make the second one that was my favorite book!!!
