OK OK keep the backhanding bit.
But I totally agree with you they should put it in the right order and explain to non-readers that the film was in the wrong order first time round LOL.

Re: Director's Cut - our wish list
Here is MY Director's Cut wishlist if Weitz (or anyone else) gives a hoot, but for what it's worth:
- the longer and more rich scenes that would give the film some breathing time and giving better, less abrupt transitions
- I especially want the "that's odd she acted like she'd never seen a person's... come on Pan" bit back in, it gave some great [if brief] dialogue between Pan and Lyra
- I want the original kidnapping of Roger WITHOUT Billy that can be seen in the comic-con preview...it seems better acted, more terrifying, and shows much more about Coulter's character
- Bolvanger first, THEN Ragnar and Iorek fight (this includes the falling out of the sky ferry)
- The ending back in place
- The parting of Iorek and Lyra on the ice bridge in the RIGHT PLACE!! This one bugs me because Lyra's motivation seems all off because of where they were originally going to put it and where they ended up putting it... irritating. This one is a BIGGY!
- If not the original ending... then I hope they at least end with Iorek winning the bear fight, and have a little more conclusion about his becoming king rather than an abrupt line that moves the plot along (i.e. Now I will take you to Bolvanger)
**********
Although the list is long... I must say that I did really think the movie was well done despite the editing. So I hope, Weitz, you look at my list and see what a great film you have and STILL can change for the Director's Cut. You have all the footage, you just need to put it in the right order so that it is POWERFUL... and THAT is something you can do.
Weitz, please put the ending in the director's cut... this is not to say that you shouldn't make a Subtle Knife with that bit in, (in fact, PLEEEASE make the next two movies). I just think that for the extended cut, you should put it in for a teaser. We've basically see all the footage anyway. When Subtle Knife is made, there's always the possibility of making a Director's Cut without the ending as the beginning because you've already put it in the Director's cut. Hope that makes and ounce of sense... We fans are DYING to see a director's cut! Please. Do this for us, if NOTHING else.
Of course, I'm writing this in hopes that you scan over this topic... Thank you for your consideration. Now go get 'em!

Re: Director's Cut - our wish list
It seems some people have slightly misunderstood the concept of a director's cut (the clue is is the possessive apostrophe). This might explain why some people's expectations are unrealistically high.
I'm afraid there isn't going to be an edition that matches our own personal vision - the best we can hope for is seeing what Weitz wanted to make the film, for better or worse.

Re: Director's Cut - our wish list
Of course. This is our wishlist, not how we realistically think the director's cut will turn out... but I still think that even if a few of these things are added, the film would turn out better. I think Weitz has the right intentions so I'll trust him on how he visualized the film and hope we'll get to see it...It seems some people have slightly misunderstood the concept of a director's cut (the clue is is the possessive apostrophe). I'll still hope that a few of these things are added, but I obviously won't (and shouldn't) get hopes too high. I will be more shocked if the final director's cut actually turns out close to what I had hoped...

Re: Director's Cut - our wish list
Hey guys - not trying to spam this thread, but I've actually been reading your lists and it inspired me while sitting on the train. I'm not sure how great this will turn out but please help... I'm planning to try and re-edit the film to my liking, I started work on restoring the ending to the best of my ability, but i'm thinking of going a few steps further on the whole film.
My planned changes include:
Read more what I plan and how you can help. I'm looking for dooable suggestions. I obviously can't include deleted scenes which no one publically has. Any help will be amazing tho!
http://bridgetothestars.net/forum/viewt ... 3&start=20
My planned changes include:
[*] Film events in correct order
[*] alternative joining scenes sourced from the game (audio remastered to remove dialogue)
[*] improved restored ending placed on the end of the film
[*] A few extra planned scenes placed here and there (added retiring lines of dialogue, working on adding 'she looked like she'd never seen a persons dæmon before' scene but flow and audio are currently a bit all over)
[*] possibly a few cuts
(stuff like removing the master saying 'also sometimes known as a golden compass')
[*] alternate scenes
(stuff like the alternate 'you believe she is that child?' which I much prefer)

Hmm... I thought of doing that myself. But I wouldn't shout that too loud... I'm not sure how that'd go down with the film studio. (Like they could catch us. Pshhh. )I'm planning to try and re-edit the film to my liking, I started work on restoring the ending to the best of my ability, but i'm thinking of going a few steps further on the whole film.
Anyway, it's a good idea, but I wouldn't go too far until we hear if there will be a director's cut...

They will only really care if I start uploading and sharing it about, which currently is not my intention. It's purely eductional to see what I can come up with considering the resources I have. I know that people might find that harder to get inspired about but tbh I don't know if I'll end up with anything half decent. If I do then everyone involved is welcome round my house for a good movie night in! lolHmm... I thought of doing that myself. But I wouldn't shout that too loud... Re: Director's Cut - our wish list
Yeah!
Or you could just send me a copy... but don't tell anyone. I was thinking of doing something like that myself, but I'm not sure I have the energy (no pun intended).
[/quote]
Which one are you referring to? Because I like the one in the movie a lot actually... thought it wasn't overdone and cliche looking. For trailer purposes it made sense, but for the movie it would sound stupid if she was terribly troubled or shocked by this "prophecy of the witches" news... so I wouldn't change that.
I think the MAIN alternate scene I personally would change is the "gobbling scene" in which both Billy and Roger get kidnapped... I personally liked the one with ONLY Roger a LOT better. Seems more like how gobbling was done in the book...
See my other reasons above in an earlier post.

YES! Please... THAT was the worst one. The other two times were actually OK.(stuff like removing the master saying 'also sometimes known as a golden compass')

Sharing it could be difficult, and if I did, that person would have had to of helped create, and also sent me a pic of them holding the official DVD! lol. I dunno, there's nothing created yet anyway... so what's the point thinking of this too much atm.Yeah!

I prefer the trailer version. I think that Mrs coultler would be concerned about her if she knew of the prophecy before hand. I seem to remember though that she didn't know about it till book 2 though... I'd at least like to see how it would flow if reinserted in the film.
As for the roger scene... possible to reinsert, but it would then screw with continuty that billy had gone too :/ tho like you I prefer the roger being captured on his own.
found in the book I won from btts images of Mrs Coultler and a officer dining. I guess this is the person she calls a bore to lyra. I dunno. Seems there was a lot of scenes from london cut. :/

Re: Director's Cut - our wish list
As far as I know Grumman was originally in the film, but then was later discarded along with all references.
There were various other scenes we had not heard about filmed, including Lyra hiding in a chapel from the Mgaisterium, an additional attempt on Lord Asriel's life at Jordn College, and every scenes was extended/included in the original cut, which was far more coherent and faithful to the book.
The original cut would likely have gained 12A in the UK and was approximately 165 minutes long.

There was also the scene in which the Gyptian spy dies... i remember reading the scene in one of the picture movie books, and it showed one of the Gyptians down on the ground dying with everyone crowding over him. A director's cut sure would make a lot of people happy it seems... it really needed the deleted scenes. It'd help immensely with character development.

Re: Director's Cut - our wish list
I was started doing that but gave up and tried to restore the ending using the sims 2. Although I gave up on that coz I can't get the northern lightsin th background of the marisa/asriel embrace (really pretty effect).I'm not sure how great this will turn out but please help... I'm planning to try and re-edit the film to my liking, I started work on restoring the ending to the best of my ability, but i'm thinking of going a few steps further on the whole film.
Anyways, if you succeed, please e-mail it to me it'd be cool to see. But I'm not forcing you to LOL. Remember IT'S OK TO GIVE UP. I'd feel seriously guilty if you committed suicide or something out of frustration XD!
ps: my adress is b-meisterlive.co.uk if you wanna mail it to me.

That seems typical of New Line's 'cuts' really. All mention of death iwas completely exercised from the film. There was also the scene in which the Gyptian spy dies... i remember reading the scene in one of the picture movie books, and it showed one of the Gyptians down on the ground dying with everyone crowding over him.

YES! Just adding that scene would have allowed the film to breath more... and we still have 25+ minutes of extra footage that we've never seen! I've figured out where the scene would have been. Right at the part after she reads the alethiometer, she notices the skull symbol and says "on top of the hour-glass is a skull"... I'm pretty sure that's when they find out about the Gyptians death. And the movie would be far less rushed. There was also the scene in which the Gyptian spy dies... i remember reading the scene in one of the picture movie books, and it showed one of the Gyptians down on the ground dying with everyone crowding over him. Re: Director's Cut - our wish list
We could (maybe in an extra-thread) split out the movie and add with pictures and description how a director's cut would be like.
So a detailed summary of the movie with pictures etc. including our director's cut speculated scenes.
Unfortunately I have no dvd-drive in my pc, so someone should do the photos.
So we analyse the whole movie and scenes. Above the picture we write something, maybe hints for non-book readers what exactly happens in the scene etc. And that for the whole (theatrical) version. When we that have we can put where we think to know "director's cut scenes". So a kind of a storyboard of the whole movie.
What do you think of that project? Something we could do while wait and hope.

Re: Director's Cut - our wish list
Good idea. Maybe I could do some short videos on the sims 2 as sort of a pre-viz type thing for the delete scenes. It would be quite rare if I do come out with anything, because I am tied up with loads of other projects too. What do you think? We could (maybe in an extra-thread) split out the movie and add with pictures and description how a director's cut would be like.
