He was an interesting character. He wanted to please the master so badly that he was blind to all his evil deeds. even though he was the master's slave. :? I suppose it's kind of like that thingy when a kidnapped person falls in love with their kidnapper. I really liked his infactuation with Kestrel. That was pretty funny. Those Haths are on fire!

Those Haths are on fire!
Now that was a rather awful pun, hal... ;) And I suspect it was deliberate.

Come to think of it, "Wind on Fire" sounds a bit dogdy.

*nods agreement*

Which is also probably why I'm not even going to bother clicking on it. :P

I thought Ortiz was a bit unreal, actually. I mean, a warlord and still so innocent? I'd have thought he would enjoy cruelty a bit more. He seems to see burning people only as a necessary evil, or maybe not an evil thing to do at all.

I think that he was just brainwashed. The master imposed his will on everyone in the mastery.
Spoiler:
when Bowman beat him in their mind battle, the people all broke free of his mental fetters and trashed the whole city
.
Maybe Ortiz was shielded from the brutality of what he was doing by the mind of the master.

They are. I liked the first one too though.
