Ah, I remember seing this a long time ago on another site....It started me drawing them. This is such a beautiful picture, so well done, all the shading, and the whole anatomy looks so possible. Well done, this is one of my favourite bits of HDM fanart.
Mimi!: on 08/22/2006
Wow, that is really really good, your shading is amazing and the horns are drawn really well. I like the way you can see hairs on Atal's trunk (really good detail) and the eyes are soooo good!!
???: on 08/23/2006
wow this is the best mulefa pic by far!!! wow its soooooo beautiful!!! the shading is perfect!!! u are suuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuch a good drawer!!!!!
Kirikale: on 08/23/2006
The best part are the eyes. They look so lively and intelligent. You can tell that this is a person, not an animal. Excellent!
Lee: on 08/27/2006
so Kirikale does that mean that animals are not smart. if so i have news for you we are not the smartest species in the world!
Lizzietiffon01: on 08/29/2006
YYYYYYYYYYYYYYYEEEEEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSS : D:D:D:D AT LAST! THE PERFECT IN EVERY WAY MULEFA/ATAL PICTURE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!*phew*OMG i cannot believe this is ssssoooo good! Amy-u must be like a scientifically enginered drawing clone or summat.....coz this drawing is of just mind boggling class and proffessionalism! That IS Atal 4 me! This is the best drawin on the site! Everything is honed to perfection in this pic-Atals compassionate and quick expression conveyed through her warm and glowing eyes and face wrinkles, her alert ears, the subtle hair shadings on her face, the rough and yet gentle textures on her hide, the light hightlights and reflections shining on her horns, the dark hair bristles on her mane, her strong enhanced muscle tones, the delicate creases and wrinkles on her skin, the 2 "fingers" of the trunk, the proportions of the body and face and leg r just spot on! The shading density and light perspective of this spectacular drawing are just amazing! This must have taken u hours to complete! i love it! Please do more art as your advanced style is just magical.
Lizzietiffon01: on 09/01/2006
whoopsie
Otherkin: on 09/01/2006
...That's frickin' amazing. I think you actually are a genius. I may have to kill you.
: on 09/01/2006
Lee; yes, we are the smartest species in the world. You'd better not start spewing some crap about how dolphins are waaay more intelligent than us; they're not. They're just not, okay.
Zoe: on 09/02/2006
To anonymous, human intelligence is a matter of opinion, as we have no unbias way of testing the intelligence of other animals.
I think however that this is a discussion that should not take place here, as it will take away from this amazing piece of art
Tasha: on 09/04/2006
Wow this picture is amazing! that is exactly what the mulefa would look like, well done! also love the pic of the bears u did, keep on drawing!
Victoria: on 09/08/2006
This picture is amazing. You are a fantasic artist. It looks so life-like, and there is alot of intelegence in its eyes, very powerful stuff there Amy. Everything has so much detail. Its beautiful.
KittyKat: on 09/10/2006
You really are incredible...let's see, how much...more so than the drawing. And that frankly, is impossible.
snaily: on 09/13/2006
that pic is amazin!!it is really gd!it looks really life like! u r really gd
Amy Thompson: on 09/15/2006
Hi, and thanks for the compliments! I'm not quite satisfied with this drawing anymore -- the mulefa are such a challenge (I can't seem to find any photographs on Google Images, no matter how hard I search) and I'm continually tweaking my design. But it seems like I managed to convey her warmth and intelligence pretty well.
Mudpower: on 09/20/2006
Ho realistic, I feel as if I could reach ut and feel the wetness of Atal's hooves.
pam: on 09/22/2006
oh my gosh, WOW! it's sooo good picture. Not good. Exellent, Perfect!
: on 10/08/2006
This is the best picture in the whole gallery, seriously.
glittercloud: on 10/21/2006

Lune van der Meulen: on 12/27/2006
Dear God! I'ts wonderful! How old are you? How did you do this? You know,I thought I was a pretty good drawer, and now I see this! I have very little self esteem now....BEAUTIFUL
lizzie brooks: on 12/29/2006
this is exactly how i pictured her to look. i wish that you had drawn her whole body, tho.
Amy: on 12/31/2006
Thanks. Lune: Don't be discouraged! Keep on drawing.
Lizzie: The body is the hard part. Making convincing anatomy and muscles for the diamond shaped skeleton is very difficult. I'm working on it though, and when I've pinned down the look to my satisfaction, I'll post some more!
...:Bethany:....: on 01/01/2007
It Looks Like a real picture!
lizzie brooks: on 01/07/2007
Amy, if the rest of the body looks as good as this, or even half as good, i can't wait to see it ^_____^
Kirjava: on 01/09/2007
Once again, thank you! I commented already on your drawing of Iorek and Iofur's battle. This is, if possible, even more stunning. When I look at HDM fanart, I rarely see artists drawing characters as they're described in the books. You do it perfectly. This is so close to my mental image of the mulefa it's almost scary. You're incredible. Keep drawing.
Koni: on 01/18/2007
WOWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!! I envy your shading skills. THis Mulefa looks like it's going to jump off the paper! or comp screen!!! It also looks very intelligent. IT has a look in it's face like a sweet grandmother, like caring and wise and loving. LOVELY!

Except the horns. I don't remember any horns.
Amy: on 04/11/2007
"They were roughly the same size as the grazing creatures, but leaner and gray-coloured, with horned heads and short trunks like elephants'."
Later on in the book: "Mulefa couples, for example, on entering marriage, would exchange strips of bright copper which were bent around the base of one of their horns with much the same meaning as a wedding ring."
andria: on 04/29/2007

I've been trying to get a good mental picture of the mulefa and had to resort to the web to find something. After seeing this picture, I am so glad I did. Well done. Much better than anything I could have imagined. You have a wonderful, wonderful talent. Thank you.
namster: on 02/03/2008
I never liked the melufas... UNTIL NOW! This is beautiful and moving and amply amazing.
Raquel: on 02/03/2008
Hello, Amy, fristly, CONGRATULATIONS! You draw amazingly well! Your talent is stunning, really.
I couldn't really imagine Mulefas while reading the books. but with your draw, wow, I really can! Thank you for this amazing draw. I really like the shades and how can see the hairs. The whole anatomy is challenging in this case and you did it amazingly. But my favourite are the eyes, they're really intelligent.
Keep on with the good work, I wish you success.

I'm still working on the full body design, which is very challenging to get "right". Eventually I'll have some more mulefa drawings to share...
