Win a part in The Subtle Knife Movie
Posted on by Ian

The clothing store GAP is offering the chance to one child in the UK, aged between 7 and 13, to win a day on set in the UK during the shooting of The Subtle Knife movie, including a ‘walk on part’ as an extra, although the part will be non-speaking.

To apply, you need to visit your closest GAP store and pick up an application form (click on thumbnails below to enlarge images of application form), and describe in 50 words or less why you would like to win. The deadline for applications (which must be left in store) is December 22nd. 20 applicants will shortlisted and asked to submit an audition tape during early 2008, after which a winner will be selected. The prize includes standard class return train travel from the winner’s nearest train station and two nights hotel accommodation, for both the winner and their parent or guardian.

GAP does not guarantee that the ‘walk on’ will make the final cut, and have anticipated the possibility of no movie being made with the statement that there will be an alternative prize (a trip to Los Angeles to record a screen test) if the movie does not go into production before March 2009.

  1. Janet says:

    agghhhh. I’m American!!!!! =(

  2. Caroline says:

    Nooooooooo! I’m American and 14!

  3. Troy says:

This is excellent, even though I’m American. Based on what I’ve heard in the past few weeks including this, the Subtle Knife movie will almost certainly be made.

  4. pan_fan says:

NOOOOOOOO!!! YOU UK PEOPLE ARE SOOO DARN LUCKY!!! grr im 14 and an american

  5. David says:

I have a question that probably has already been answered somewhere but will “His Dark Materials” appear before the subtle knife title if it is made? I’m already pretty bummed out about it not being in the title of the Golden Compass

  6. Lizzietiffon01 says:

OMG OMG OMG !!! so going 2 enter!!!

  7. daemon_light says:

This is making me nervous… a non speaking part has to be UK? I hope this doesn’t rule out American for Will… I hoping that they just don’t want to make such a long trip for JUST one extra. Who knows…

  8. Ian says:

daemon_light: It’s a UK only competition because it’s being run by a UK clothing chain… It’s not an awful lot to do with the film to be honest. As for an American Will, I should imagine that GAP have very little to do with choosing him. Not that I personally would like to see an American Will – the books are British – the majority of the cast in TGC is British – Will should be likewise.

  9. daemon_light says:

Haha… forgot the competition was run by GAP 🙄 Thanks!

Oh by the way… I don’t think that Will should be American. I still want the British accent to be there, but Americans, (if they can do it well, mind you) should be able to have a shot at it. 😉

  10. SoulLily says:

Drat… Why does this have to be UK only? I was so hopeful when I saw the title. v_v

Ian: GAP is in Canada, too.

  11. keytotheworlds says:

Man the movie is so cool, I hope they go on as plan to make the second one. Why do they have to look for someone in the UK T_T.

  12. joseph says:

ha ha u american asses haha im english take that n suk it im gunna be der haha

  13. Sweet. says:

Just so you all know, GAP is an American based company. So saying that it is a contest for UK children because GAP is a UK company… is extremely wrong. It is more likely that it’s because the film is being done in the UK and they are cheap.

  14. Stacey says:

Actually the movie is being done in Los Angelas (the reason why the prize is an LA screen test if the film DOESN’T happen) and just because this contest is happening is no gaurentee a film will.
On another note, was anyone else upset when they
    a) Made Billy the kid who loses his daemon
    b) Put the Bolvanger (sp?) scene after the Iorek fight scene
    and
    c) never showed the crossing into the city by Asriel, aka Rogers death and the ending of the Golden Compass?

  15. Sarah says:

i so hope they make the 2nd film. i think if we all keep positive mind about it we’ll get it (damn reading “the secret” too much XD XD) but seriously! It sucks that they cut the last 3 chapters out!!! they did that to stick at the begining of TSK, and i also have a feeling they did that to give lord asriel an appearence or he wouldnt have one. i was reading the subtle knife last night and i realised that lord asriel wouldnt be able to make an appearance, hes just mentioned…ALOT. wouldnt it be cheaper for them just to do the competition in america if filming is in LA??? hmm well dont matter for me i’m a girl and live in new zealand XD

  16. lyra fan says:

i live in greece.its a shame because i love these books and the film is gonna be great!i wish they will ask for a part from people from other countries next time (movie 3)

  17. Islay says:

The Golden Compass movie was horrible! The book was amazing but I really hated the movie. They left the whole ending to the book out and the transitions where really bad. I just hope if they do make The Subtle Knife it is a lot better then The Golden Compass movie was.

  18. Drew says:

    whaaaa

  19. Drew says:

I wonder What “The Subtle Knife” will be like?

  20. Eamon says:

I’ve read the entire series and I’m into auditions and when they made the movie The Golden Compass I new I had to be Will.
When I saw it was only for UK people I was so upset. I have a British acent though.

  21. i dont want a part in this but i just want 2 say i love you dakota blue richards (lyra) – you’re the most beautiful girl iv ever seen in my life!!!!

  22. oh ye, does any1 know when or where the audiitions r 4 the subtle knife??

  23. Pampered.Pixie says:

I NEED TO MOVE TO THE UK!!!!!!!! I LIVE IN STUPID AMERICA! ARGHHH! I really want to be in a His Dark Materials movie so bad!!!!! 🙁

  24. CS says:

Holy shit!!! Does this mean the whole trilogy WILL be filmed?? *Crosses fingers and hopefully awaits reply*

  25. mark scoresby says:

How many people want to be Will?

  26. natashalyra says:

damn, I live in canada …… but i so want to be in the film, man life is NOT lucky

  27. Mick says:

I want to be will so badly! i dont know if there will be auditions though, who knows whether or not the subtle knife will even be made a film!!?? if any1 could tell me, id be very grateful.

  28. yuliA says:

I AM GOING TO ENTER AND I HOPE I WILL WIN I HAVE RED ALL OF HIS DARK MATERIALS

  29. Tommy9898 says:

I just want to say that the ending isn’t that bad, just think about it. The way they did it leaves you thinking what will happen next. If they ended it like the book did then it will leave people thinking “what in the world just happened?” They would just be confused and not care about the next film as well as already forgeting what did happen when they see the second one(if they bother to).
In that logic this ending was a good move. When the next movie starts(think optomistic, it is “when” not “if”) people will get to see it and learn what exactly did just happen. Ending it like it was done in the book would have made all the non-readers much angrier than they were now.

  30. Alex says:

I wanna be Will SOOOO badly, but I live in Canada! I have an agent and all, I’ve been on some commercials too! I have like the most BEST british accent in all of CANADADACANCDANCNC!!!! I WANNA BE WILL!

does anyone know when auditions are?

  31. Ian says:

Folks, read the news on the homepage? Have you got your eyes shut?! There’s absolutely no guarantee that a movie is even going to be made. Consequently, we obviously can’t tell you where any potential auditions might take place, as they may well not.

  32. lovely-laurie says:

    when is the closing date???????
i live in ireland but my auntie lives in england so i could stay with her cause i would to get the part

  33. Ian says:

You’ve missed it by three monthes.

  34. simon says:

im annoyed with the ending of TGC (film) but i though dakota really showed how crap daniel radcliffe was in the first potter film. He was 13! I think that if they make the subtle knife they should do a bit in the start that shows rogers death etc. etc. and then go on to wills life.

  35. darklighter_luly says:

I was upset about the ending of the movie too, but I still hope there is a second movie ^o^
The story becomes much more interesting with will and lyra together ^-^
and about the contest…I live in argentina and I´m over that age but I´ll be happy just watching a second movie, no matter who is on it
actually, it does matter…there´ve been so many books ruined with bad movies about them XD
oh, and simon is totally right about dakota being better than daniel XD

  36. Tim says:

    Nooooooooooooooooooooooooo!
And just a word of happiness, I’m a huge fan of the golden compass and I’m glad those darned boycotters of the movie haven’t stopped the release of the Subtle Knife and the Amber Spyglass! WOOOT! Three cheers for His Dark Materials Books and Movies!

  37. Tim says:

  38. Zotius is my daemon says:

Here I am, an American kid on her knees begging the producers to finish what they started. I GOT A BRITTISH ACCENT! BEST IN BY SCHOOL! YET I STILL WOULDNT HAVE EVEN HAD A CHANCE! grrrrr. Oh well, im happy as long as the make the movies.

  39. Zotius is my daemon says:

its only 9:02 PM where i am….. not 6:00 AM

  40. Ashleen says:

Hi, I am Australian I loved the movie The Golden Compass and hope they will continue on with making The Subtle Knife and The Amber Spyglass. I love the books and can’t wait to see the movies. My favourite character is Will. Also I do agree with simon that dakota is way better than daniel radcilffe.

  41. dissapointed says:

I for one was really dissapointed in the film. I’ve read the books at least 8 times each since they’be been published (I really should get some new copies). Some movies need to be shorter on time this movie could have been benefited by being longer. The actors were good, and Dakot Blue Richards made an excellent introduction for herself, but something was just not right.

I realize they need to change the scripts for movies but It hardly seemed like the same story.

  42. dakota's biggest fan says:

I REALLY WANNA BE WILL IN THE SUBTLE KNIFE, BECAUSE IN THE AMBER SPYGLASS, WILL SNOGS LYRA!!!!!!!!!!!
