Philip Pullman will deliver a public lecture at Bangor University (where he is an Honourary Fellow) this Friday. He will be speaking on Strangeness & Charm, the fundamental particles of narrative, and explore the art and science of writing. Dr David Roberts, Registrar of the University, said: “We are delighted to welcome back Philip Pullman to the University. He is a brilliant writer, but also an inspiring lecturer who is passionate about education. This is a unique opportunity to hear a leading author explain his work.” Read more.

Adam Godley's Articulation

Adam Godley played the titular role in BBC Radio 4's Saturday Play this week – Dr Glas, by Hjalmar Soderberg. Godley is to play Lyra's daemon, Pantalaimon, in The Golden Compass film, so it's a good chance to sample his voice. Jim Carter, who is playing Lord Faa, is also in the play. You can listen again on the BBC site for the next six days (skip a couple of minutes in).

She is seen in the photo with her on screen mother Mrs Coulter (Nicole Kidman). This month has seen the publication of [i]The Elements of His Dark Materials: A Guide to Philip Pullman’s Trilogy[/i] by American Laurie Frost. Philip Pullman featured it in his October [link=http://www.philip-pullman.com/pages/content/index.asp?PageID=128]newsletter[/link], saying “It will sit on the shelf next to my favourite dictionary, which is Chambers', and I look forward to seeing it gradually fall apart as I consult it again and again.
