The Times lists the Golden Compass among this upcoming season’s best films to look out for, among other book-to-film adaptations like Ian McEwan’s Atonement and Khaled Hosseini’s the Kite Runner. “Believe the hype? Big budget, big ambitions and even bigger names – this picture aims to be the holiday movie of choice for the whole family. A stunning Nicole Kidman is second only to the special effects.” Read more.

Have they seen more than us? Or do they mean “most promising”?
for the whole family? ehm…
i don’t think it would be a family film………….
i mean it is usaly individuals who reads the book and recomends it to a freind………….
Yeah, a “family film” fingers getting cut off, land of the dead, cutting your soul off, splicing, and everything, im sure a three year old would love that!
Just because this may be considered a “family film” doesn’t make it a film for children. It just means that it has the appeal of a wide audience. To me, the Lord of the Rings movies are “family films” in that respect because so many people of every age went to see them. This film/story I think has that same general audience. Besides, we already pretty much know it’s going to be PG-13 so I don’t think it will be a kiddie movie. 🙂
