Variety Asia reports that the Golden Compass earned 2.5m USD (Y270m) this past weekend at advanced screenings in Japan this weekend. actually its performance in the chinese box office should be pretty negligible. even though it’s pretty impressive that there’ll be a chinese release, cinema-going culture is pretty dwarfed by the massive pirated/legitimate dvd culture. but it’s nice that TGC will see a big screen audience nonetheless.
