The Chinese site hisdarkmaterialsnews.com have announced that The Golden Compass is to be one of the twenty foreign films annually approved for screening in China and is set for release on March 28. Although it is currently unclear whether the film will be subject to censorship, its release on the big screen is bound to bring a huge boost to China’s His Dark Materials fans. I love The Golden Compass! I hope it does well in China, good luck to New Line Cinema,Dakota Blue Richards,Daniel Craig and so on! Philip Pullman rocks!!!!
I am worried that the next two films wont be made, this would be really bad. Will someone please tell us if New Line Cinema is going to make these films, as they have left us on a knives edge with the first film. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE give us more!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ah, good-o! Any idea whether they’re dubbing or subbing it?
(Oh and just as a matter of interest about the whole 20 films thing (although I didn’t know about this rule either), people in China by and large don’t go to the cinema much, if at all, but (bootleg) DVDs of pretty much any movie you could want are cheap and prolific.)
Riali: That makes a lot of sense. And a good question too. I’d say they’re subtitling it but I really don’t know.
According to this Wikipedia article they dub in China more than they sub.

I don’t understand countries that dubs.. some things cannot be dubbed..
