The BBFC have announced that The Golden Compass has been rated PG in the UK as it contains ‘moderate fantasy violence and intense scenes’.
It has also been announced by the IFCO that in Ireland the film will be a 12A.

A PG over here but in the US a PG-13? Oh come on… ¬_¬ That’s way too tame!
Why is that lame? The content of the movie isn’t actually being affected.
Anyway, it’s interesting to see the different standards that various countries use. I’m surprised that it’s going to be 12A in Ireland, movies usually get rated lower here.
Do you think? I often notice on DVDs that the ratings in Ireland seem to be higher :S
Having seen the film myself, I have to say I was surprised that it had been given a PG-13 rating in the US. Yes there is violence, but it’s not terribly graphic, and there’s no blood. The Fellowship of the Ring was rated PG in the UK and I thought that it had much more violence in it than The Golden Compass. PG seems to me to be a suitable rating.
But… but… but THAT means I have to ask my MUM if I can see it!!!
No!! Does that mean it’ll be only PG in Australia?! This will not end well..
