Fresh Golden Compass Game Screens
Posted on by

Sega have released four new images of their upcoming videogame of The Golden Compass. Due to be released alongside the film, the game will see players “use their daemon and collaborate with in-game characters, collecting special items in order to explore, evade, and deceive their way through confrontations with the Gobblers, the Magisterium, and the horribly dangerous spy fly to find her friend. They can also do battle as Iorek with special attacks and a riding mechanic as he protects Lyra during the journey.” The new screenshots are below – click to enlarge.

Meh. It doesn’t look like it’ll be too good.

  2. Daniel says:

I hope those images are from some VERY early prototype.

  3. Dukeleto says:

Doesn’t look very next-gen to me, in fact everything I’ve heard so far points to the usual shameless cash-in you usually get with licenses. I really hope Sega prove me wrong, as this property really deserves to be treated with some love, but I’m not holding my breath.

  4. Holly says:

Why does every film have to have a videogame with it??? They are never that good, and it’s so boring playing through the storyline of a film you have seen?

  5. Robert says:

I know Sega and they are incredibl, if they can get it right then that will make it incredible, also graphics NEVER matter. I am a person who knows this and will say that all the games sega make are fun, i played low graphic games and i still love them, sega made sonic, they can easily pull this off, trust me.

  6. DustDaemon says:

Whats wrong with them? i think there fine! However i do agree with dukeleto, im not holdin my breath either!

  7. Jammer says:

Robert: I’m just worried since the whole last generation of sonic games (minus the 2d ones) sucked. I’ve noticed the quality of Sega games has gone down drastically, which is why I’m so hesitant.

  8. Colin says:

    Robert,
First of all, Sega is ONLY the publisher. Second, saying that because sega made sonic and they could easily pull this off is like saying because Shiny (the developer behind this game) made Earthworm Jim, and hence therefor TGC will be good. Newsflash, Just because it says Sega, or Shiny on the box does not mean ANY of the people that actually worked on Sonic or EWJ are involved at all! Even if they were (which they aren’t), that still does not mean the game will be good. Games have changed dramatically since the 16-bit, 2D era, and they require much different gameplay to actually be “fun”.

  9. John says:

It is early so I am sure the game will look better as time goes on. Also, most of these images seem more teaser-like than full on game play but maybe that is just me.
I do like the one in the snow with the wolves stalking Iorek though. I just wonder how the daemon works in the game?

  10. Emotionengine says:

I work in the games industry. Believe me, this game is rubbish! It’s only being published by Sega, not developed by them. Shiny Entertainment is creating the game and they’re a fractory for crap licenes these days.

So, don’t hold your breath and I would HIGHLY recommend you try before you buy and read the reviews! You’ve been warned.

I thought that a video game for a book like this sounded cheesy in the first place. Don’t get me wrong about this; I love the Golden Compass book and the movie’s turning out great, but I think that they’re overcommercializing the book a bit too much. o_O Toys? Video games? You have got to be kidding me.

In my eyes, they’re definitely taking advantage of the book’s fleshy content and turning it into corny merchandise. Sure, all this commercial stuff won’t do anything to ruin the book, it’ll just give HDM a more “kiddier” reputation. (Which is something I don’t want to happen)

Oh well, I guess it’s all about money these days…D|

    well good luck Sega …

  13. Ma`Jo says:

It remembers me Miette in the old video game of The City of Lost Children. Don’t you think so ?

  14. Robert says:

oh come on, all your comments are so down grading, for 1, yes, i am mr insane about games, but just give it a chance, it is early to say it is rubbish + those who made fun of me are cruel and may sega make a good game so i may prove a point
