New Line has hired Hossein Amini (“The Wings of the Dove”) to pen “The Subtle Knife,” the second part of Phillip Pullman's “His Dark Materials.”
Move comes as New Line's in the midst of a five-month shoot on Pullman's “The Golden Compass” at Shepperton Studios in London. Chris Weitz is directing the $150 million “Compass” — to be released late this year — from his own script.
New Line president Toby Emmerich has continued to assert that the mini-major plans to shoot the second and third stories in Pullman's trilogy, but only if the first performs well. But he also said this week that the hiring of Amini represents a significant commitment toward going ahead with the next film.
Amini's currently penning “Drive” for U with Hugh Jackman attached to star and Marc Platt producing. Other credits include “Jude” and “The Four Feathers.”
Brit newcomer Dakota Blue Richards stars in “Compass” as 12-year-old Lyra Belacqua, who travels to a parallel universe to battle the forces of evil and rescue her best friend. Nicole Kidman, Daniel Craig and Eva Green also star.
In “The Subtle Knife,” Pullman introduces the character of a 12-year-old boy who has learned the art of invisibility and is seeking his missing father when he encounters a vanishing cat and joins forces with Lyra Belacqua.
Pullman's final book in the trilogy, “The Amber Spyglass,” won the U.K.'s 2001 Whitbred Prize for children's book, then became the first kids' book to win the Whitbred book of the year award.
Scholastic Media's Debra Forte is producing “Compass” with line producer Bill Carraro.
i nick has also read all three books and loved the but the most inportant thing is the acting, i’ve being in 4 plays and i would love to be chosen to be will in the second and third movie Because i would love to do somthing with my life
Pretty much everyone here wants to be Will, I just wanna be an actor, and if u start early, (apparently) it helps…
Does anyone no a website which gives info on auditions????
not really
Same for me, I would love to play Will, but a) I’m from Holand, although my English is good, and b) I’ve never acted before. But I’m not saying I can’t act, I love it. I’m also 13, male and I’ve read all the books. Still, fat chance. It’s not forbidden to hope.

im gettin im patient
I think everyone is, I can’t stop thinking about it, but no news has come yet about the auditions.
I can only hope it’s in the holidays at least then’s the most chance i can take part
me too
Good news. They wont cast Fredie Highmore as Will because hes already the voice of Pan so thats a relief. Also with Will, the whole idea is that he and Lyra are a similiar age which is probably more important than him being the right age. Dakota Blue Richards is now 14 so Will will probably have to be a mature 13 year old to a 16 year old to pull off the age similiarity which would make more sense than staying true to him being 12 even if shes 15 (which she probably will be by the time they make this movie)
Dakota’s 14!? Wtf?
how old did you think she was?
12…
dudes, dekota is 13-14 now, im nearly 13, but im hell’a tall, so im not that bad, so people who are tall 13-12 would be good, (good at kissing, Boooya!)
when they held, post away..
People, I’m aware that you struggle to read, but let me make this clear to you. If you continue with your pointless posting I will ban you from commenting altogether. Please; either on topic or not at all. We have forums for a reason.
yes… well… what do we talk about on comments then?
nothing dont listen to him… he probably doesnt want any info out on the auditions because he wants to get it… hes teaming up on us. I dont trust anyone.
Anyway, i was never worried about freddie highmore being will. Wills supposed to be tall dark and powerful. im sorry freddie but your small fairylandish, and a bit poofy. But ur dtill a gr8 actor lmao. Im moreworried about people like that guyplayin edmund in narnia an stuff…
lol
He’ll never get it, he is WAY too puffy (no offense) but he just can’t be Will… it would be… WRONG! lol!
Uh-Oh.
1) PET? PANTALAIMON A PET? If they call Pan a PET in the film, it could seriously muck it up. I went to see TGC with a load of friends, and ALL the way through it I was asked about daemons by them. If you don’t understand, read the books!
2) BIIIIIIIIIGGGG mistake. Will doesn’t make himself invisible, it’s just a way of behaving! Honestly!
3) QUOTE: does anyone agree me with me when i say that the voiceovers of animals and creatures . i.e demons are totally different to the voice in my head. for instance saphira from eragon sounded ridiculous
Well, what did you expect them to sound like?
are they doing auditions for the subtle knife if so are they going to Glasgow because i’m hopefuly going
to be there.
I hope audition info omes out in half term soon. And no to campbell, sorry mate but i doubt theyll have them glasgow… There probably only be in cambridge, oxford and maybe london or some place. But only in england.
But i think that all us people on this long discussion are putting up there hopes just a teeny bit. Dont want to be dread but do you know how many people will be at each audition. Thousands. And only one can get it. I just hope its someone good, to be honest im not to worried if they havent had much acting experience. All you need are 3 main things.
1- Understand and have the right feel of the character will parry.
2- Have read the books
3- Be tall, slightly dark and mysteriou, strong, and be about the age of 12-13.
There are some more minor things but those are the three top things.
Hang on a min….. i fit into all those three catogories.
Well what do you know! lmao.
You no, Ian sounds like one of those robots that you get on msn and stuff init like smartbot ;]

;] Just jokin Ian, no offence mate. Just to cheer you up i will actually start to talk about the forum.
Personally i think that Hossein amini Will do an alright job as head of TSK even though i havent seen wings of an dove or the four feathers and stuff. And also “Pullman introduces the character of a 12-year-old boy who has learned the art of invisibility and is seeking his missing father when he encounters a vanishing cat” as many people have said. WTF??????
simon…
just to edit what u said about the age,
Dakota Blue is 14 years old, u rly think the actor for will should be 12 – 13??
yh, lol.
Dakota only just turned 14 in about april or march so shes only just a 14 yr old, but maybe 12-13 was wrong. 11-early14 maybe, but 13 really should be the limit. You dont want to look like youve just been through or are still going through puberty. Unfortunately puberty is the sage im in the middle of now lol ]=…
But if you think im wrong then tell me lol.
You know i reckon it looks like they aged daniel craig in TGC… i just wached casino royale again and he looks so much younger than he does in TGC.. But it could be the beard.
…. Lets team up together and make this the longest discussion ever on this website….. Here i go ……………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………..he he…………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………nanana……………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………….doolally lala………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………. .. …. ..
ooops.. kinda ruined the page..
naa, i dont think there should b strict limit to ages… cause i kno im 15, but im stil rly short for my age..
i dunno, they shouldnt stop ppl from going in cause of their age, but obv if they look to old they cant get the part
yh but you might suddenly shoot up. No offence but if youre 15 you’ll look pretty old for a 12 yr old evn if your short.
thats puberty n stuff.
plus i swear there was an age limit for the lyra auditions… so…
admitadtly yeah, i have quite a shaped face and stuff
but i stil think tht there shouldnt b such a narow age limit
and if dakota is 14 yrs old… the book says will looks talker and older thn her
why has evry 1 stopped commenting……
i wondered that! lol
lmao
