New Line have unleashed a barrage of new images to promote The Golden Compass for 2007. They feature several new shots of Dakota Blue Richards as Lyra with Gyptians, Lee Scoresby and her mother – Mrs Coulter, played by Nicole Kidman. You can view all of the images in our Movie Image gallery and discuss them here or on the message-boards.

I like them. Lee Scoresby looks kind of like Mark Twain.
Not too crazy about the first picture though, looks a little too…I dunno, cheap somehow…other than that these are great.
The pics look fabulous! I love the costumes. Can't wait to see the movie!
i compeltely agree with Vaka…
it does all seem a little.. cheap, or tacky… or something… who knows…
hopefully these arent stills or anything
these pictures were actually slightly dispiriting
They were probably taken in a studio – but on the big screen everything should turn out more natural looking, I guess.
wow that pic of Lyra helping who I believed to be roger in the north almost made me cry it captured a lot of emotions in the book
The pictures are ok… they do give off a kinda "cheap" and "over-the-top" feeling, but not complaining! I guess we can assume from the first photo that at least one woman goes North with the rest of the gyptians (Ma Costa?). Since it shouldn't have much of an overall effect on the story's outcome, I don't think it's a big deal, just an interesting observation. I am very excited by how much New Line is promoting the film, especially considering how long we still have to wait for the final product!
i like them! specially the one lyra's helping roger
Just beautiful
I think Lyra's holding Tony Makarios. I believe these are trailer stills because the caracters were in action when these images where shot.
the trailer is coming *_*
looks pretty good so far, doesn't it? 🙂 dakota looks bad-ASS!
These shots have no post production. They will be much better once the footage have gone through that process.
The promo picture of Nicole Kidman and her golden monkey is a fake – her head was clearly taken from the shot of her and Jordan college blurred in the background.
There will be a trailer of The Golden Compass shown when the new Harry Potter movie is released. Watch this space.
that's it, i'm going to the midnight viewing of harry potter.
love DE pics! Specially lyra walking on the seats in dining hall place. oh, and her + roger.
how cool r Lyra's gyptain clothes?
cum on trailer!!!!!!!!
To DarkM: It's a pronostic the trailer being realised when Harry Potter comes or is your opinion?
I am very exited with the new sills, and yes it seem cheap because they need a post production.
Some of these photos are the best indication I've seen so far that the film is going to be great.
Ive said it before, and Ill say it again…visually, they seem to be nailing it. If the script is as good as the way it looks,, then its gonna be a winner
I AGREE!
Don't you all want a picutre of Coulter in the north. I am very excited for seeing what costumes she where in the north…..Oh! and more piks of Serafina, we only have one!
Yeah!
I want more serafina pekkala!
and i want a picture pf lord Asriel and Mrs Coulter together in the north  (am I asking too much? xD)
Wow!!!!!!! Most of these are great!!!! I wanna see the movie right NOW!!!
I seriously need Serafina Pekkala pics.
LIEK, NOW!!!!!!111!1 ;D
I have some problems with these pictures, but most of which have to do with what I pictured these people in my mind. Still I'm mad about Coulter's hair. Otherwise she's perfect.
And I love the picture of Lyra helping Tony. Or Roger.
With this bunch of pictures (ranging from very good to quite okay, in my opinion) I was inspired to do a bit of Gorey-esque picture manipulation, though with a picture we've already seen earlier. So, this is part of the (non-existant) HDM version of the classic "Gashlycrumb Tinies": http://www33.brinkster.com/haltis/Roger.png
i've also done lots of things in the photoshop with the pictures :3
for example, this icons :

you can use them as you want ^.^
Those pics are cheap, over the top and tacky? for some reason when Oxford Dictionary was being written, I doubt those pics were what they had in mind for cheap and tacky to mean. Those are excellent stills, there is nothing cheap, over the top and tacky about them. Pullman's world that he made His Dark Materials to be is no different from our world. It isn't meant to look hi-tech or ridiculously shiny/glossy, the world should be lived in and even unfantisied. Those are excellent movie stills. It would be good if people who see them as tacky and cheap point to things they would have done to make them look "un"cheap or non-tacky. The crew and cast look to be doing a grand job. Critizing is one thing, over the top negative analysis is another.
Amy, you're right, i've seen so many negative comments about everything T-T
i fully agree with Amy. These are truly AWESOME pictures. I especially like the one with Lyra walking on the chairs.

not film stills. but still nice to look at.
g!!!
Those photos of Nicole and Daniel are very sexy! Yummy. They make a nice couple.
Those photos are really sexy!! Someone's posted a transcript of the interview at a Nicole fans site. They seem to have great chemistry. This movie is lucky to have such great actors. A few snippets-
Despite the photo-shoot fatigue, Kidman and Craig can’t seem to get enough of each other. He’s decidedly less jittery when she’s around, and she brightens-instantly-when he walks into the room.
‘She turns me on,’ says Craig mischievously in his smooth, deep voice. ‘In the nicest possible way, you understand. Not in any sordid, horrible way.’ And then he pauses, reconsiders and laughs: ‘Well, come to think of it…’
A few more–
In The Golden Compass, which features flying witches, gypsies and talking bears, Kidman and Craig play star-crossed lovers. She is the wickedly manipulative Mrs. Coulter, and he is the adventurer and scholar Lord Asriel. In the film’s climax, the two play out their one romantic scene on the North Pole, while straddling two universes. Director Chris Weitz (About a Boy) says that although the sequence was shot on a sound stage with 60-foot ceilings, a green-screen backdrop and giant fans blowing fake snow, the result is a ‘great sentimental moment- a throwback to the moment Rhett Butler and Scarlett O’Hara says goodbye.’
Kidman is known for her seriousness on the set, and Weitz says it never once flagged during The Golden Compass: ‘Even when she was clutching the Day-Glo green beanbag- which in the film will be a golden monkey – she was intense. There’s a real veracity, a real humanity to her acting.’
"Even when she was clutching the Day-Glo green beanbag- which in the film will be a golden monkey – she was intense."
that's what shows us how good an actor/actress can be…
i mean, pretend that a beanbag is our dear soul… :wassat: *clap*
I know Nicole will do it just fantastic!
i've always think she's so professional!
a few days before i started reading tgc, i saw moulin rouge.
when i read about coulter, the only person i could picture was kidman…and i didn't even know her name back then!
but it's weird, cuz when i was little i used to pretend to be her character from batman and now she's my favorite actress starring in my favorite books.
Shaye Previews New Line Slate
Robert Shaye, chief executive officer of New Line Cinema, offered SCI FI Wire a preview of the company's upcoming genre releases, which include the much-anticipated The Golden Compass, a fantasy thriller based on the first of Philip Pullman's His Dark Materials novels. Chris Weitz directs a cast that includes Nicole Kidman, Daniel Craig, Eva Green and Dakota Blue Richards; it opens in December.
"The Golden Compass is going to be a terrific movie," Shaye said in an interview while promoting The Last Mimzy, an SF family drama he directed for his studio. "I really think it's exciting. I think Chris Weitz is an enormously talented guy. He's written a great script. He's a wonderful collaborator, and he's a guy I have a lot of respect for intellectually and creatively. I think Nicole Kidman has done a wonderful job. Daniel Craig has done an extraordinary job. The little girl, Dakota Blue, … everybody has just been fantastic. And I have hopes that it will resonate to some degree. … I think Lord of the Rings is very sui generis, but I have hopes that [Compass is] going to be a movie that the world will embrace."
