Joel Rickett writing in The Guardian today reports on news of Scholastic's plans for further editions of His Dark Materials. “After the book sales bonanza of the Lord of the Rings and Narnia films, a global publishing programme is essential for any self-respecting fantasy blockbuster: box sets, official movie companions, storybooks, colouring books, and so on. So Scholastic is delighted to have signed a tie-in deal for The Golden Compass, the forthcoming film based on Philip Pullman's Northern Lights.” Read more.

Box sets: Yes, but don't they already have them?
Official movie companions: Does this mean behind-the-scenes stuff? If so, I'd like one, but if not, I have no idea.
Storybooks: Erk. No. This is not a childrens' story.
Coloring books: Sure, why not? Everybody likes to color now and then.
They can just be sure that I'm not gonna buy any books that have a "Now a Major Motion Picture!" sticker on them. Nope.
Coloring books?!?!?!?!?!?!? AWESOME!
I think pretty much any reissues like this are generally okay, since they're not changing the words of the books. A HDM picture-book would be great however!
NOT movie covers! I hate those! They are so…unsophisticated.
