A Hampshire firm, Dalbergia Ltd., has won a contract to make furniture for several of The Golden Compass sets. Working with the film's designers, they created “a pair of flame-birch veneer sofas, with a set of four matching side tables as well as a pair of futuristically designed tub chairs and a stunning marquetry topped coffee table in satinwood, macasser ebony and weathered sycamore veneers.” The company's main business is the restoration of existing furniture and production of bespoke pieces for customers – film work is a new venture. The owner, Piers Paterson, said: “This was a really enjoyable and exciting project to work on and was an opportunity to showcase a range of our skills. The furniture has been well received by the film's designers and it looks fantastic on set.”

Awesome….I really can't wait to see the movie. :smile:Will there be any photos of the furniture or will we just have to wait? 🙁
Dunno – hope we get photos, though. I want to get an idea of what this film's going to look like!
But, now, do we have any pictures of such good material, though? :crying:
Great! We can sit on chairs again!
I think I speak for about 6 billion people when I say "giant who cares."
Why should anyone care about the actors either?
Or perhaps you think that the movie would work just as well with big concrete blocks instead of furniture?
i agree with gabe
Yoiu guys should be a little nicer. Someone went through the trouble to get this info and then write the report. I for one am very greatful for everyone that is supplying this site with information.
🙂 I wonder whether or not this furniture is going to be used in the opening scene in the Retiring Room; it sounds as if it would fit in that scene quite well.
HDM Head: I sent this in to BTTS, though they may have gotten the information somewhere else. I can tell you that it was very easy to find. I just set up a Google alert for anything to do with the TGC movie, and it sends me an email whenever there's something in the news. Then I just forwarded it to BTTS, where they wrote a short summary.
Not to say that BTTS doesn't do a great job, but this particular story wasn't much of a challenge. 😉
chill
not a biggie (deal or story)
we are civilized humans
Everyone seems to be getting a bit tetchy, so I think the best cure for that is: 🙂
Wow, there's just so much hard work going into this movie, here! 🙂 I sure hope that it'll be all worth it, in the end.
So basically what you're saying gabe, is that, the existance of acutal furniture on the set, is contingent on my caring about which company is manufacturing it?
Quite possibly one of the most stupid things I've ever heard.
Calm down everyone! Please be nice… 🙂
I LOVE FURNITURE!
