Open Auditions for Lyra to be Held
Posted on by

Screen Daily is reporting that open auditions for the part of Lyra in the upcoming His Dark Materials film will be held. The producers say they are looking for a girl “who embodies Lyra's loyalty, bravery and mischievous nature” and say that she need not have any previous acting experience.

Auditions for the role will be taking place solely in England: at Cambridge, Oxford, Kendal and Exeter. The auditions will be held during the first two weeks of this April. A girl between the ages of 9 and 13 is being sought, allaying fears that Lyra's age would be raised for legal or moral reasons.

For full details on dates, locations and contact details, see the BttS auditioning page
.

For those going: We'd like to cover the auditions here on BttS as fully as possible, so if anyone actually going to the auditions is interested, we'd love it if they could tell us of their experiences – how they convinced their parents, what the queue was like and perhaps even taking a few photos. If you are planning to go to the auditions and are interested, then you can email us here. Your stories would be featured here after each of the auditions.

Details:

The casting calls will have open queues in the morning lasting from 10 o'clock until 12 o'clock and will end at 5 o'clock in the afternoon.

The exact locations are:

  • Cambridge's Corn Exchange (4 April)
  • Kendal's Castle Green Hotel (6 April)
  • Oxford's Examination Schools (11 April)

And Werecatweird, I'm guessing you live in Englang, too. I'm South-East (*!!!Essex!!!*) where abouts are you?

  8. RachelJ says:

    Hey peeps
I know I just posted but I have been to ur website Missy-Me and it is very cool! Didn't understand a word at first so I used an online translation site.

I see you sell jewellery! It is really nice, shame I'm all the way in England and can't order 🙁

It is SO proffesional – like a real business – I'm impressed. But why have you called it the Simone & hamper line?

Please post an extract from your book! In Dutch or English, I can just translate it on Babel Fish.

Gelieve te posten een uittreksel van uw boek! (voorbeeld van de Vissen van Babel!)

  9. missy-Me says:

whaha I'm dutch rachel, and alewyn lives in america
mm yeh I'm afraid it be too hard for you to but it.. 😛 and expensive.o_O
but it isn't Simone & hamper line

My name is karlijn so..;-) Just 2 names
    hehe
but indeed dutch schools have more holls..:) And no uniforms and less tight then english onces. We can do more. 😛

  10. missy-Me says:

    oh the book extract..:P
ok I'm just gonna put the dutch here. See yourself how you translate it.. But im afraid it won't be very nice to read then :p it was too long so it's in 2 posts..:P the story is that Sarah, finds a book and get by that without wanting it to another world where she is a princess and blhablah but its a bit complecated..:P
    but uhm okj:

  11. Missy-Me says:

    Geweldig.

  12. Missy-Me hehe last part! says:

    God shit.

  13. RachelJ says:

Here is Missy-Me's story in English (the words are all mixed up – but that's the programmes fault – not mine!):

Once at home want will I up my put aside books and once more to the strange book to look at. But an unexpected shit annoying verassing bungled that. I was exactly halfway the staircase then my mother me called. ` Sarah, Saraahhh bowl once rapidly down! Rapidly I ran to my chamber and dumped the books on my bed whereupon I down sprintte. Once downstairs I find my mother super gladly to children Laura-Anne irritating with my aunt Angela and its enórm and Daan. Daan a snot had been spoiled child with always, however, the newest "terrible" games and Laura-Anne were enormous modetrutje. Although Laura-Anne tried clearly me attention to attract I looked at desperately angrily to my mother. How she could me do this to?! As or I to do not enough then my time had to waste to Daan's recovers how he had obtained level 68 or to Laura-Anne's recover concerning what at her on school was there with that little girl that a model was.

  14. RachelJ says:

    Missy-Me's story continued:

Terrible. Angrily I ran to the garden and will on the old krakkemikkige swing sit. In the middle of in the sun, 30 degrees. But I my protest given up, no! Never. After 5 minutes I let slide itself lie of the swing and will I under the old pear tree. Already rapidly I Laura-Anne's clicking pumps concerning the terrace hear run and strike dumb then them the grass on ran. She will sit beside me in the grass and picked a daisy. Already rapidly she started a tale and I swaid myself omhoog so that I came beside her sit whereas them concerning that new fantaastisch line make-up told. * Gaap… I listened but halfly picked also a daisy and started pick the sheets of the flower. A couple minutes later my attention something else was drawn. I stood up and ran to the hedge. There a boy stood whom I had seen never. Wauw, bruine short haren deep look and super-sweet kuiltje in its cheek what I discovered after he laughed pleasantly.

  15. RachelJ says:

    Missy-Me's story continued (again):

` since when have been you here have asked I sincerely curious halfly flirting. ` Oh, since yesterday evening and he has been winking. ` I stay poosje at my aunt say he nonchalantly with its hands in its pockets whereas he nods in the direction of my neighbour who lay sunbathe in a garden chair. He was called mark and was 15 years. Everything went its gangetje until Laura-Anne had at last by for which I walked up to to the hedge and affected waggling to mark and me ran. ` Heey, which are jíj? She said and the boy had immediately attention for its, and for its cup c which was well to see in the truitje. I had an ordinary nice t-shirt in which you managed see, however, well that I approximately cup had AAA.. If that existed already. Grr, I could assassinate her, however,! I walked in to with as plan chagrijnig on my chamber sulk to will and pitiful to find itself as my mother, who makes the evening meal to were me against kept. ` cover you just as the table value god ****.

  16. Werecatweird says:

and i love talking to you guys too! *hugs everybody*

yeah i live in england. i technically live in the south-east, but i live in hampshire, so i'm pretty much on the border between south-east and the south-west. kinda. but anyhow. i DO live in the south-east. :wassat: i'm confusing myself here.

whatever. i'll quit while i'm still talking vague sanity

  17. Alewyn says:

    Missy- it sounds so good!!!

My real name is Alexandra and I live in America. That almost rhymed…

  18. Missy-Me says:

  20. Werecatweird says:

hey! look! were back up and running! go btts!

  21. Alewyn says:

Guys– pic of Dakota, thoughts on it?

  22. missy-me says:

    I don't like the pic.. she's too sweet…o_O

  23. Alewyn says:

She's not me. Therefore, she's not right.

    I like my logic 😉

  24. Werecatweird says:

i dunno. but i am COMPLETELY freaking out! i saw it earlier on newsround and couldnt bloomin check till now!!!!!!!!!!!!

i dunno waht i think of it though. its…

  25. RachelJ says:

Yay! We're bac! I can't believe I didn'y notice . . . oh well . . . da dakota pics? Well, just picture, not plural. Hmmmmmm . . . i don't know, here hair seems sorta red . . . and she has got a very pointy up nose . . . but i gues im just sayin that coz im jealous . . . like 2 see her full face, thou . . . but there will be more roles! 🙂

  26. Missy-Me says:

    which I won't ever get..o_O

  27. Alewyn says:

Yeah..actually..it's really her nose that's annoying me lol…it's too ski-jump-y

  28. RachelJ says:

Any comment on the Roger pics? If he's not got a free ticket to girl stardom I don't know who has (2 young 4 me, though!) I'm not sayin he's good lookin or anyfin, but girls go crazy for anyone famous! How old do you reckon he is?

  29. Alewyn says:

Just wait till we get a Will

i mean seriously, i have a crush on the CHARACTER lol

  30. Missy-Me says:

whaha, hopefully a handsome guy will play him..^^
but roger, well i dunno and don't care. I mean he's important for the story but we won't see him often on the screen will we.

  31. RachelJ says:

Yh – how old is Will supposed to be? I hope hes gona b an older teen . . . it'll take ages for them to cast him, tho

  32. Werecatweird says:

well in the beginning of the subtle knife he's 12.

  33. Missy-Me says:

    :O that young..?!

  34. RachelJ says:

oh yh – but they'll prob go for someone older, since they'll be better at acting, Dakota will be 14-15 by the time they finish the second one, tho . . . so they mite get someone the same age as her – but she is 13 in the 2nd isn't she? Now all I'm doing is confusing myself!

  35. Werecatweird says:

nah in the subtle knife Lyra's still about 11/12

  36. RachelJ says:

Is she? I swear she is 12 in the first one and the second one is a year later

  37. RachelJ says:

Whoops, sorry! Just read what you said again – you said he, not she
    *retracts first statement*

  38. RachelJ says:

I know this is my 3rd post in like 20mins, but I was just wonderin, are all you guys into acting and stuff? Considering we were talkin about the Meggie and Lyra auditions. How many have parts have you all auditioned for? I've only done the Meggie and Lyra. Did anyone try out for Luna? Do you think the actress who plays Hermione (Emma Watson) will quit? If so, will you audition?

  39. RachelJ says:

    ~*~ BoNfIrE ~*~ nIgHt ~*~
    Yay!

  40. Alewyn says:

    …bonfire night?

and no, i'm not going to be an actress. maybe a director or producer or screenwriter, but not an actress

  41. RachelJ says:

Oh yeah I 4got u woodnt hav bonfire night in the US! Bonfire Night / Guy Fawkes Night / Firework night is on the 5th November in the UK. Here is somfin I found on the internet 2 explain:

It celebrates the failure of the Gunpowder Plot, in which a group of Catholic conspirators, led by one Robert Catesby, and including Guy Fawkes, attempted to blow up the Houses of Parliament in Westminster on the evening of 5 November 1605, when the Protestant King James I (James VI of Scotland) was within its walls.

The celebrations, which in the United Kingdom take place in towns and villages across the country, involve fireworks displays and the building of bonfires, on which "guys", or dummies, representing Guy Fawkes, the most infamous of the conspirators, are traditionally burnt. Before the fifth, children traditionally used the "guys" to beg for money with the chant "Penny for the guy", although this now rarely seen.

Fun, hey? Absolutely LOVE bonfire night!

  42. Alewyn says:

    omg, that sounds sooooooo awesome
do you guys get like the day off from school or something?

  43. RachelJ says:

No, we don't get the day off school coz its always in the evenings 🙁

OMG Manchester United are right around the corner from where I live – RIGHT NOW! AH! My town's tiny football team have somehow ended up playing them! Luv Southend United and all – but they stand NO chance! I wanted 2 go but tickets were SO expencive – the stadium is really close though!

And for any1 who doesn't know british football (soccer) Man U (Manchester United) are absolutly brill and no one has heard of Southend United! Ar….. It would be SO cool if we won – then every1 wood no Southend U! However unlikely …….

  44. Werecatweird says:

    uh Man U stink!

sorry just had to let taht out. pretend i havent said that ok?

    i went to bonfire night!!
the one i went to was a bit smokey though. to much smoke.
and no, we dont get a day of school espeicially as this year it was on a sunday 🙂 but i think most places celebrated it on the saturday where i live, but y,know, sundays are awkward in a way.

to the question about being an actress, i'm really torn. because i LOVE acting, i LOVE music (i play 3 instruments) and i LOVE story writing. and i just dont know what i'm gonna do!!! :crying:

    ANYWAY…

  45. RachelJ says:

What instruments do you play? Could you post an extract from your story?

And I know Man U aren't great or anything – but they're just so big and famous!!! AND WE BEAT THEM!!! OMG!!! It has SO shocked every1! Man U are gutted! Southend U ARE BETTER than MAN U! That is just SO huge! (Sorry if I'm goin on about this 2 much – but if u were from Southend you'd understand! My whole school couldn't stop goin on bout it!)

  46. RachelJ says:

(forgot 2 mention) Do you think the full shot of Dakota is real? I hope it is – there is something oddly 'Lyra' about her …

  47. Alewyn says:

omg…your team beat Manchester??? that's AWESOME!!!

    and…er…i don't like dakota :wassat:

  48. Missy-Me says:

    me neither, she sucks.>!
But i haven't done any real auditions yet..:( Ony for a dutch movie but in holland you just need to send in informationwith pictures byb internet and then if you're lucky they invite you.
But soon there will be auditions for a film of a suuupppeeerrr succesful dutch book! *it's translated in 10 laguages..o_O!*
and i'm SOOOO going for that part..xD
But here in holland we don't do it by part, just one big audition where they pick everyone,,
    handyer i'd say…
I luuffff to act and dance..xD

  49. Werecatweird says:

sorry huys, for the last like week, the internets either been broken or wont access btts. grrrrrr.

anyway. i'm not rly fond of any football teams to be honest, they all irritate me

oh yeah. and i play the piano, flute and the saxaphone.
I'm grade 5 on the piano, and have been playing it for over 5 years
Grade 4 on the flute and have been playing or 5 years
and grade 3 on the saxaphone which i've only been playing for just over a year!
(if anybody knows what this means)

and i love playing all 3! i love music!

    but i also love acting!
    and story writing!
    :crying: :crying: :crying: :crying:

    i just cant win!!!!!

  50. Werecatweird says:

rly? so far i think dakota's living up to my expectations
