  1. The Bard says:

Wow, thats pretty cool, there seem to be more and more productions of HDM all the time , have to go see one sometime soon. How do the kids play daemons though?

  2. Alewyn says:

How do the adults play daemons? They find their own way.

  3. Wytchbabi says:

Why, god, WHY do i have to live in the US????
    WHYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY? :crying:

  4. Nalanna says:

OMG! It's not fair! I go to Stagecoach too but not the one in York! IT'S NOT FAIR!!!

    Oh well,
I'm happy for those who are going to be in it.

    Experience of a lifetime!

  5. stagecoach...ugh says:

oh dear, i hear stagecoach aren't very good. Playbox Theatre Company are staging HDM for April, showing at their own custom built theatre for young people in Warwick, Midlands. I think you'll also find that Playbox were the first company to begin plans to stage this epic play after the Nationals production. It seems that a lesser drama group is trying to rival playbox. They'll have to try better…

  6. Stagecoach rock!so go get a life. says:

who told you stagecoach aren't very good? Do you even know the history or what it provides? It has a lower income than playbox. who cares who started it first? How many stagecoach shows have you seen? i havnt seen any playbox ones and im not gonna criticize them.stagecoach has helped me in so many ways and im grateful.

  7. money isnt what matters. says:

hey stagecoach may not have enough money to build there own custom built theatre but at least we have fun exploring this brilliant play. there is noone at stagecoach who has a bad time.we provide oppurtunities for everyone from every background and no matter who they are they have fun. surely thats what matters?

  8. stagecaoch rules!! says:

I have to say I agree, Stagecoach is the best I have seen quite a few of their performances and have been in a few aswell and it may not have as big a budget as playbox but stagecoach did get the rights first and deservingly so as it has such a well deserved reputation and anybody that has heard that stagecoach isn't very good has obviously heard wrong.

  9. wow! what a snob says:

do you know how snobby you sound in your comment "stagecoach…ugh"? you really need to be less competitive!who actually cares if playbox may have started it before? Are you really so paranoid that you think that other companies are 'competing' with each other? Ew.

  10. stagecoach is awsome says:

stagecoach is awsome everyone should come and see his dark materials its at rowntrees theatre, york from the 18th of april till the 23rd

  11. Nalanna says:

stagecoach is great!!!!! It is the best thing for you if you have confidence issues. They even offer you exams in Trinity which can help you in thr future. I don't know much bout playbox, even tho ive heard of it, but who cares? I bet they are just as good as each other really.

Unfortunately, money does matter because if you can't pay for royalties and costume etc then you can't have a professional performance. But professional isn't everything: some amatures can be better than proffesionals!

Am I going on too long? I'll shut up now! ^_^ 🙂

  12. joe says:

well its great for the kids but i'll stick to my playbox tickets

  13. stagecoach....ugh says:

hehe so im a snob eh?
Playbox Theatre Company is a professional theatre company for Young People. Stagecoach is more of a 'drama club'. I hate to compare haha but the quality of performance, production, teaching and talent is far higher at Playbox! please…stagecoach? LOL

  14. stagecoach...ugh says:

ok when i was talking about stagecoach i did not mean the york centre
    i was referring to:
    http://www.stagecoach.co.uk/

  15. Nalanna says:

   Right.. THIS IS IT!!! If Stagecoach is such a "Drama club" then how come I'VE just done my grade five TRINITY EXAMS? (and PASSED)No "drama clubs" offer exams do they, huh? HUH? Do Playbox offer exams? Do they? Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!   (I really must calm down. Grrrrr)

  16. The abyss says:

Look whoever urgh…stagecoach is he/she is obviously not connected to playbox otherwise he/she would be congratulating stagecoach and wishing them look

  17. well says:

playbox enter actors to LAMDA exams (london academy of music and dramatic arts) iv never even heard of trinity
    but hey
    and also
pleaybox understands that exams mean sweet FA
    anyone can learn a speach
it takes real talent to act.

  18. stagecoach..ugh says:

abyss- i dont really understand what you're saying there

  19. stagecoach rox says:

the stagecoach staging his dark materials in york is an individual drama group not connected to the countrywide chain drama group.
it is very individual and people there work very hard. stagecoach has seen many members go proffesional and many are now in the west end.

  20. Miranda says:

I saw both parts of the Stagecoach production in York this week and was very impressed with the imaginative way back projection was used to handle the numerous scene changes, also the professionalism and commitment of the cast. With a top age of 28, there was a lack of gravitas which affected some of the older roles like Jopari (although James Fackrell made a wonderful swaggering Lord Asriel, very much the kind of character that makes things happen around him).

Will was played by two girls, and this didn't work for me, also I found Lyra (again two actresses, one for each part) a little shrill. I think they both struggled with the emotional weight of the final scenes, but wouldn't any actor? And to see small children playing the daemons was a delight. This is a courageous production, well worth seeing. 😉

  21. stagecoach is best says:

The standard of satgecoach productions is staggering. The entire company puts in so much dedication, focus and pure talent. Good luck to playbox or whatever for staging his dark materials but you cant get better than stagecoach so get over the rivalry-thing cos stagecoach will win hands down.

  22. Brother Jasper says:

    easily! 🙂

  23. Fruity Ruti says:

    I LOVE STAGECOACH!
    wooooooooooo yeah!
Well done to the whole cast, you rocked this world and beyond! XXX

  24. sorry says:

i dont mean ne disrespect to the cast
    but isaw both this production
    and the playbox one
    (no affiliation to either company)
and i was amazed at the difference
playbox conducted themselves with a profesional mannor, and the production was astounding, where as the stagecoach production seemed childish, and well, just very 'school play'

  25. To Sorry says:

I fail to see how the Stagecoach production was in any way childish. I saw this production and felt that all the actors acted with a great deal of maturity and brought real life to the roles they were playing. I also cannot understand how you thought it was very "school play" if you did then you must have seen some amazing school plays in your time.

  26. stagecoach fan says:

i saw both plays and found the stagecoach one better…playbox may have more money but stagecoach really brought magic to the stage.
the actors all worked really hard.they all brought something new to the parts.
playbox actors seemed over-trained and frankly, not actually at all talented.

  27. to Stagecoach fan says:

Yay! Yay! Someone woh ISNT blind or stupid!

  28. Idina says:

Why do people keep comparing them? Can't they both be good productions?
I didn't get to see the stagecoach version unfortunatly but I'm sure it was fantastic and the actors will have got a huge amount out of it.
The playbox one was breathtaking and a felt emotionally drained by the end! And as for the actors not being that talented- if that's the case how come lots of them have been picked up for film roles?!

  29. how_naive_of_you! says:

well 'stagecoach is the best'- maybe you should come see a few shows at Playbox, and you will see that you CAN get better than stagecoach!
and 'stagecoach fan'… im sure the thousands of playbox members, newspaper critics, and theatre directors would disagree when you say Playbox actually has no talent. Playbox DOES have talent, and this is recognised by The RSC, Michael Bogdanov, The National, Harriet Walter, David Almond, Sir Ben Kingsley, Judi Dench, Sir Ian McKellen, Ron Hutchinson. Playbox has links to companies in the USA and Japan… it has toured to California, Tokyo, Poland, the Midlands, and London. Its purpose built theatre has won awards. Its actors have gone off to drama school (including Lamda and Central), its actors have got agents and film contracts, its actors have performed in other professional theatres such as the RSC…. now are stagecoach still better?

  30. Nalanna says:

    Well how_naive_of_you!…

Just because you can reel off loads of famous names doesn't make the talent any better.
    (Judy Dench…? Wow!)

BUT… I'm sure Playbox members are talented, just like stagecoach people are talented. We are ALL talented, we just belong to different sides of the fence.

Believe me when I say, we need PEACE!
Just think off what could happen if playbox and stagecoach peformed in a joint show…

  31. stop arguing!! says:

i really like stagecoach and playbox and ive seen productions by both.theyre equally good and both have produced some great actors and have some famous links!!
i wish people could appreciate them both as EQUAL!!!

  32. Nalanna says:

In a nut shell, that was what I was saying… PEACE people! 🙂

  33. how_naive_of_you! says:

nalanna: when you write "(Judy Dench…? wow!)" are you being sarcastic?

  34. judi_dench says:

i was lookin at all ur comments and saw u discussin judi dench! she's actually the Stagecoach Patron cus thats where she grew up! has she ever been to visit u lot up in york?

  35. Nalanna says:

how_naive_of_you!: I meant it really. I wasn't being sarcy or anything. Promise! 🙂

  36. xxzoexx says:

    who like dannii here
oh by the way do you belive that grl who was saying that she was jamie lyn spears
    lv ya bye bye

  37. playboy says:

can we all like stop going on bout stage coach and play box
playbox who cares bout that when we haveplayboy what is and sounds so much better

  38. sad sad boy says:

i love stagecoach. i think the plays are so good.
the people there are so talented.im so sorry i missed the production.

  39. Paige says:

I saw the stagecoach play and was dazzled….it really brought the books alive for me.

  40. tilly-may says:

    what play dazzeled you all.
no-one reallygoes on this so anno7ying

  41. stagecoach rox says:

to judy_dench- yeah dench comes to our plays and writes us letters!! shes a really supportive parton

  42. Lana says:

to how_naive_of_you….stagecoach has famous contacts, actors going to drama school and later the RSC, toured to many venues, but what does this prove?
why is it a competition based on accomplishments? shouldnt we all just enjoy the acting..?

  43. Nalanna says:

🙂 I agree… this copeteing shud stop cus its getting us no where. I still think stagecoach and playbox shud do a joint show. I reckon it'd b gud

  44. lana says:

SO TRUE!! then the best 0f all the talent could be combined…great idea!

  45. Nalanna says:

🙂 Wow! sum 1 likes the idea… I'm sooo happy!

  46. Nalanna says:

AND… Stagecoach do other stuff as well as books. At mine the drama teacher writes his own work, and its succsessful… do play box do that?

O no! I competing again! Arrrrgh! :crying:

  47. stagecoachkid says:

oi i go 2 stagecoach and yea its gd but i also saw da play at playbox n dat rocked 2

  48. ...XD says:

Thinking about it, I bet that Stagecoach and Playbox are both just as good as each other, but in their own sepeate ways…

  49. PlayboxPerson says:

Playbox is amazing, a great place to be. It has so many talented people and manages on a tight budget to pull of great plays, (other than Double Act, lol) It's given me SO SO much.
But I dont get why all Playbox poeple are stuck up about StageCoach. I've never seen a show there but I am sure they're very good. Both have very good contacts, Stagecoach has a bit more money and Playbox tends to come across more proffesional. But our theatre is tinsy, and we have less memebers.
Cant we just celebrate the oppurtunity's they both give us! I mean without them we'd be stuck doing SCHOOL PLAYS! I mean-please!
Olivia was amazing! I mean utterly, and Callum was ofcourse tremendous. Mike's Pan was great, though the deamons were rushed. The whole show was great though, like most things we do.
I love Mary, Stewart, Em, Juliet, Toby, Claire! They're all amazing people who have enriched my life more than they could believe, many STagecoachers would say the same.
    Peace not War Guy.
