Britain's top authors were asked by a study by the Royal Society of Literature to choose 10 core books children should read by the time they leave school. Philip Pullman espoused the value of such literary classics as “Shakespeare, Beatrix Potter, Dickens and even The Bible,” also including many traditional myths, legends and fairy tales. Read more.
