  1. Alewyn says:

two years…think we can live through the wait?

  2. Will says:

Ah Tristian, that\'s as real as the Christmas 2004 we were all waiting for. πŸ™‚

  3. Leah says:

How can they be that sure of the date!?! They haven't even done casting yet!!

  4. Gabrobot says:

Well, if the movie actually starts going somewhere now and they don't switch director again, I'd say that date might be fairly solid. I'd think if that's the case we should start hearing more stuff soon…

  5. Wytchbabi says:

OH GODS MAKE IT BE SOONER THAN THAT!!!

  6. Jessica says:

    *waits ever so patiently*

  7. Ian says:

Well, for the last 6 months we've been hazarding guesses, and they've all been around late 2007. Like Gabe says, there is a good chance in my opinion…

  8. Ian says:

Sorry to double, but just read at thestageonline:

"His Dark Materials is also being made into feature films, the first of which is expected to be released in cinemas in 2007."

  9. The Bard says:

Awesome, ill be eighteen by that time, and the book of dust will probably be out aswell.

  10. The Bard says:

They dont serve beer at cinemas do they? Shame since ill need to be incredibly intoxicated before i see what will inevitably be a complete bastardisation of a classic piece of literature.

  11. Jez says:

I hope this is actually an accurate date!

  12. Kate says:

does anyone actually know any of the cast yet besides nicole kidman??

  13. david_234 says:

Yeah. I'm shocked to announce that Lyra is going to be played by a 13-year-old from Australia! I couldn't believe it! My friend's uncle works in the casting department at New Line, and he told me. Australia….

  14. kendraDragon says:

Oh my god! Australia? I thought they were going to cast an English girl! And if Kidman's in it too, then that'll be TWO Australians! I betcha they change Pan into a kangaroo!
Oh well, I just hope she can act. She must be alright if they got her all the way from Australia. By the way, do you know what she looks like?

  15. david_234 says:

Well, I only received a vague description, but apparently she has brown hair and eyes.
Not what I imagined Lyra to be!
But I suppose they'll just dye her hair and get her to wear those blue contact lense-thingies.

  16. tgd says:

    OOOOOOOOOOOHHHHHHHHHHHHHH so AGONIZING!
WHY is everything I am waiting for taking so long?

    1st HDM movie: 2 years.

7th Harry Potter book: possibly 3 years

Book of Dust: hopefully only a few months!

5th Harry Potter movie: possibly 2 years (but it's such a long book that the movie will propably be even worse than the 4th movie, if that's possible)

If, say, the Book of Dust doesn't come out for 2 years, I'm going to cry…

  17. senorita_silvertongue says:

Is anyone one else shocked by this?
an australian girl? even dakota fanning would be better! and why hasn't anyone else commented on this? alright, we get it, it's taking forever, but THIS is news!
please other peope 4th movie, if that's possible)

If, say, the Book of Dust doesn't come out for 2 years, I'm going to cry…

  18. senorita_silvertongue says:

Is anyone one else shocked by this?
an australian girl? even dakota fanning would be better! and why hasn't anyone else commented on this? alright, we get it, it's taking forever, but THIS is news!
please other people comment! i need the opinions of others to live!!!!! :wassat:

  19. The Bard says:

Wheres the proof that someones even been selected??

  20. roger that, Roger says:

I kind of agree with The Bard. Where's the proof? But really, if it is some Australian brunette, who cares? They obviously picked her for a reason. I'll give her the benefit of the doubt, if this is true. And seeing as your opinions are the only ones I seem to value at the moment, The Bard, what do you think about this? Will YOU care if it's some Australian? Because I really need to know if I'm the only one not being insane about this.
    Sad, yes, I know… πŸ™‚

  21. Ian says:

I doubt it's some Australian. No offence to anyone who's commented, but it's my belief that if New Line told some Australian kid before everyone else who was going to play Lyra, then pigs would fly.

  22. david_234 says:

Hey, I'm not from Australia! I'm from the U.S!
    And I'm hardly a kid…
I'm just going by what my friend said, and I even asked his uncle, who said it's the truth.
Believe me, his uncle is not the kind of guy to joke around. But anyway, I see your point.
I'm going to double-check. You never know.

  23. Will says:

David, please don't joke like that anymore; you've seen the effect it's had.

  24. david_234 says:

I'm so angry! It was a prank! That's right, a prank! My bloody friend and his stupid uncle thought it was sooo hilarious to tell me that Lyra had been cast! I could have killed them!
And his uncle even showed me his folder of 'casting details'! Their excuse was that I've been annoying them with talk of the movie, so they thought they would try shut me up!
I'm so naive! God, I have to get them back!
    Anyone have some ideas?
Oh, and, I'm sorry to anyone who believed this stupid joke, but it's not really my fault, I didn't know it was a prank, either.

  25. kyrabelacqua says:

Hey, that's funny! I'm an Australian, and have brown eyes and hair, and I'm auditioning for Lyra! Well, maybe not that funny…
I'd just like to say that I am not one of the other million girls who think they should be Lyra just cause they're short and blonde.
I think what I wrote about my appearance pretty much proves that. I can actually act!
So, does anyone think New Line will give me a chance, or will they turn me down because I'm not a blonde? I really hope they don't, cause that would be just stupid. Sorry, i'm ranting and raving again…

  26. i-luv-jessica-simpson says:

Who the hell is Lyra? And what's this about a movie? I thought this was a cheerleading website! I'm on the West-County Kittawakes team, and the captain said this was a cheer website! Is this Lyra some thinks-she's-hot cheer captain? What's going on?

  27. Andrew S says:

Sorry but Lyra is the main character of the trilogy, "His Dark Materials".

This is definatly not a cheerleading website, you either put the wrong address in, or your captain is pulling your leg

    Andrew

  28. i-luv-jessica-simpson says:

Thanks for clearing that up. I've been looking around the website and these books look really interesting… I might read them.
It'll probably mean I'll get kicked off the team for being SMART, though. Oh well.

  29. kyrabelacqua says:

    Doesn't anyone care?
    Why doesn't anyone care!?! πŸ™

  30. kyrabelacqua says:

I think David has gone to sulk in a corner…
Hey, Will, what would you say, if it was some Australian girl? Sorry, I'm just curious…

  31. kyrabelacqua says:

Oh, and Wytchbabi, what part were you going to audition for?

  32. Will says:

I would say, what devilry is this, they are actually producing the film? Begone real news! let us return to our peaceful mind-numbing state of half-rumour and vast empty tracts of information.

  33. kyrabelacqua says:

    What? :wassat:

  34. The Bard says:

The director is going to be in a bit of a dilemma though, seeing as in two years time the actress who plays lyra is going to be looking significantly older. They should get someone who is 7-8 years old and who is about 12-13 by the end of the movies. Its the only way they're going to be able to make it believable.

  35. kyrabelacqua says:

But don't you think that going from 7-8 years old to 12-13 years will be a significant difference? She doesn't age that much in the books. They should just do a Peter Jackson and film all three at once. Then there's no ageing dilemmas. Oh, and they should cast me as Lyra. Almost forgot to add that.
Has anyone noticed how this has sort of become a mini-forum?

  36. The Bard says:

^ Her age is irrelavent to the first part of the story, and filming all three movies at once is unfeasable, they're gonna shoot Northern Lights, and if its successful, they'll make more, but I agree that the best way to do it would probably be by shooting all three at once, shooting individually shows that they don't have much hope for the movie. Also, ageing dilemmas are bound to occur whenever the movie is shot, i'd rather they didn't worry about age and concentrate on making the movie a good one because the age of the children is a burden they'regoing to have to live with.

  37. kyrabelacqua says:

Yeah, I suppose you're right. But as long as they get kids with enough talent to look like they are young even when they're not. It can be done! Really, I don't understand why they don't have higher hopes for the movies, though. If they do them right, people will see trailers and say 'oh, look at that movie, mum, it looks cool, can we see it?' even if they haven't read the book. I reckon they could make a lot of money, so why do they worry?
Or am I being naive? Well, I am only 12 years old…

  38. The Bard says:

Yeah, I don't know, I just want the movie to be as good as possible, I don't care if a load of people go to see it, If they do it justice and stick to the essence of the book they should be alright. I would be seriously ticked off if it wasn't any good, like the Harry Potter movies. The movie should suit the book, so in Harry Potters case, it was a shallow movie for a shallow book but thats not going to work for HDM.

  39. kyrabelacqua says:

Well, as long as the actors are good, and that they don't change the message of the books…
Oh, and the daemons have to look cool!
Do you think have a chance? I have an agent.

  40. The Bard says:

^What??? Are you serious? Well, I don't know you, but you seem a huge fan like me, and so I reckon you should go for it, worst that can happen is that they can turn you down

  41. ~WolfMage~ says:

They are completely going to fuck this movie up. How the hell they are going to be able to get the dæmons in or any of it. I reckon they would of been able to do all that and make it good is if it was anime or something

  42. kyrabelacqua says:

Uh, WolfMage, have you ever heard of CG? And, The Bard, you forgot to add that I'm very intelligent, too. Is anyone else annoyed at all that stuff about Narnia on the website?
I'm getting sick of hearing it, but no-one cares what I think, cause I'm just a kid.

  43. The Bard says:

^ Actually I hadn't noticed, but thanks for pointing it out .

P.S By the way, im joking, so don't maul me.

  44. The Bard says:

Incdentally, being only twelve years old, what are your views on theism?

  45. kyrabelacqua says:

You mean athesim. right? Well, I think people should feel free to believe what they want to. At the end of the day, it doesn't really matter.
I don't think there is a right or wrong religion, because no-one really knows the truth about it all, but I think there is a right and wrong way about going about it. Oh, and by the way, I am now thirteen. Not really a big difference!

  46. kyrabelacqua says:

And why do you think I would maul you?

  47. The Bard says:

No…I mean theism (the belief in a god), rather than atheism (the disbelief in god)

  48. kyrabelacqua says:

Oh. My mistake! Same thing, really.

  49. mory says:

ahhhhh…and i thought one of my buddy was kiddin me!!! gosh…i read the first book and i loved it…then i was trying to look for the second and third one and it took me like two years just to find it!!! mann how gald i was when i finally found it…but damn…i have to wait another two years to see the movie??? hmm…i should be fine…time is always runnin by fast…i won't die just yet…or suffer…and about Nicole Kidman being one of the cast…if she's the mother…they'd have to die her hair black wouldn't they? i forgot what color Lyra's mother's hair is..but anyhow…i think Kidman would be ok for that part…i mean…i don't see why not…she's tall and looks graceful and all…fits Lyra's mother's discription…just die her hair and yeah…don't yall think?

  50. romulus says:

    πŸ˜‰
How can they already cast out this movie_?
