But I don't like that you can see her bra through the gorgeous sparkling shirt. I don't see Mrs. Coulter as being the type who would expose herself like that. she's a crule, murdering adultress, but not a slut.

Nicole looks spectacular!-- nearly breathtaking. From what I've seen from the stills so far, the artistic work on the lighting, costumes, sets, props, filmwork (cinematography?), looks fabulous! I really believe the film will be a great success. I think Kidman will be brilliant, as always, but if only they died her hair darker! Oh well... I guess I can't complain until I've actually seen the film.

Unlike some people, the second I heard Kidman was cast I felt very safe with the progression of this film seeing as the producers went after who a general consious thought should be cast. And Kidman is a fantastic choice. If she plays this well (which I have no doubt in my mind) I could seriously see her getting awards attention for this if the reviews are there. Coulter is just too juicy of a role to be overlooked.

i really wish people would stop obsessing over these stupid little details, but if you really care that much about the tiniest details then go and look up recesssive genes in relation genetic traits like eye colour, eye lobes etc.

Although I didn't think she fit the part when I first heard she was cast....but after seeing some of these pictures...she seems she'll do the job perfectly. She makes the most perfect facial expressions, and the character comes through in that way, rather than her physical features.

Seems as though there's room for her monkey on her right shoulder/arm. maybe that's why she's holding her arm like that. ;oP

I must say that ive always thought that Nicole Kidman was perfect for the role of mrs Coulter but the makers of the film have given her the completely wrong image! Im sure miss Kidman woudnt have minded dying her hair black for the film, she is a proffesional after all, and also that dress she is wearing is dispicable. Lyra's world is sort of still in the period of the 19th-20th century isnt it? So why is she wearing a tasteless, see through, disco glam dress then? I am sure Nicole herself wouldnt even wear something so hideous. I am sorry but Newline cinema has to buck up their ideas if they are to achieve making the treasured film We hope to see by doing justice to the treasured books.

Dark eyes are dominant -- BB or Bb

Dark-eyed parents as yours have a 25% chance of having a green-eyed child (bb), as long as they are both heterozygote (Bb). Your family history is completely plausible.

As for Daniel Craig and Nicole Kidman, both are blue-eyed, meaning their genotype is bb. There is no way a bb couple could have a dark-eyed (BB or Bb) child. It just does not make any sense. If both parents have blue eyes, the child HAS to have blue eyes as well.

I don't really give a damn about eye colour, though. All that matters is the quality of the film.

I usually coudn't give a damn about such things as eye and hair colour in book to film adaptations, but I must say that I am not pleased with the fact that Lyra (Dakota) doesnt have blue eyes. It is mentioned so many times in the books, even more than her hair colour, and it shows so much about her character. I thought that would be one of the main things they were looking for in the auditions. The eyes are the most important part of the body when looking for personality and Lyra's eyes really project her explosive, unpredictable nature. Ahwell. Im sure she will be fantastic with her portrayal of the spunky, golden haired mother of all heroine anyway. I wonder if the film makers have considered supplying Dakota Blue with blue contacts?...

I'm actually lovin daniel craig as asriel, if you saw the pic, he was great in casino royale. Not so sure about how lyra looks. Funily enough, i had always pictured here like she will look in the movie (blond and all) but in the book she actually isn't, which i musta missed, glad i did though. Also i dunno about anyone here but i like it pronounced L-EE-R-A. And i know that isn't how PP prounounces it (he says L-Y-RA) which is how it'll be in the movie (check the new website) but I just like it. L-EE-RA sounds more lyrical and nice.

That is a dress/gown under the top, which starts, um, there.

If you look at other pictures, you will see a long flowing gown.

What I meant when I said that is the intensity in her eyes I imagined so much better blue and blue is so piercing and dramatic and fierce. Brown for me is warm and soft and tame. Not Lyra's character. I'm not really bothered about it because I think Dakota is the perfect choice, I was just a bit crestfallen at this because her eyes are my favourite features of her. I didn't mean to cause any disturbance by this so forgive me. Of course eye colour can't show personality! I should have explained it better. I apoligise once more.

kidman was a good choice but i have issues with the hair colour and style they chose for her. it is supposed to be surprising that lyra and coulter are related; not "damn, they look exactly alike." coulter is supposed to be nothing like lyra, and her design in the books reflected this - she was nothing like her, physically.

I rekon they needed an actor like Nicole to pick this film off the ground. I mean I was so excited when they announced they were making an Eragon movie and then when i saw it, it completely and utterly FAILED. And then when i heard they were making one for the Northern Lights i was a bit scared at how it would turn out. But when i heard Nicole was playing Marissa, i was relieved. I MEAN DOESN"T SHE JUST LOOK ABSOLUTELY DIVINE IN THAT PHOTOGRAPH! =)

Aaaand... yet more screaming about the stupid haircolor issue. So Mrs. Coulter is blonde in the movie. Get over it. Kidman's features are too delicate for dark hair unless she's going for a harsher look (see also "The Hours").

Mrs. Coulter is supposed to be a goddess, absolutely untouchably glamorous, cold as ice, and gorgeous. I love all the costume designs we're seeing for her thus far precisely because they are dramatic and unsettling, yet classically gorgeous. Mrs. Coulter would want heads to turn when she walked down that aisle, simply for the enjoyment and manipulation factors they would provide, and that's what the costumes say.

Yes, I imagined Coulter as blonde too, Nic was exactly who I had in mind when I heard there was going to be a movie :) Though I read the book a long long time ago, it shows up my attention to detail :" I'm thinking of reading HDM again so I don't forget how I imagined it the first time.
The costume/set designs seems quirky, to visually offset the idea that Lyra's universe is ours with some daemons thrown in; (even though PP wrote them as essentially the same, possibly to have the opposite effect that invisible or intangible things can still exist). I think they've adapted it well, they've captured the right kind of quirkiness to accompany daemons and witches and gypsies and dark matter :D I'm so excited for the movie, but it'll be released later here, in Oz :/

Personally I think these casting directors needed to read the book before casting. But I have come to an agreement with their choices. Ms. Coulter being my favorite because I love her motherly character change throughout the series should definately have black hair. I don't believe it's her bra you're seeing in the picture. The sparkly thing looks more like an accessory to put over the dress. This is not the Mrs Coulter I pictured and doesn't fit the book description at all. Soooo disappointing. I guess I'll stick with the books and avoid the movies. How unfortunate!

I can't believe I haven't commented on this yet... I think I've seen it about a million times! Shame on me.
It took me so long to realize that was a dress under a shirt! XD I just thought the whole thing was a dress in itself or something like that, I didn't see a bra until someone pointed it out to me. But yeah, I just noticed that you can see the darker material under the bust, so it all makes sense.
Anyway, I love it!! Nicole's going to do an absolutely fantabulous job as Mrs. Coulter, I can feel it. (If she doesn't I'll be completely heartbroken; Mrs. Coulter is my favourite character in the whole bunch.) I can't wait to see it! Just 32 more days...
