Serafina says to Lee all they need to fly is to tear off a branch of cloud pine, any will do. I imagined trees, whole forests of cloud pine trees but then thats my opinion.

This picture reminds me of Narnia...
But looks great nonetheless. Just how I imagined the troupe of Gyptians to look.
They can't be too far north, there aren't trees up there obviously.

It's a beautiful picture. I don't have a problem with who they chose, but when I was reading the books I pictured the Gyptians to be Jamaican. I don't know why.
