Serafina doesn't fly on a broom...I think it's that bow (which is obviously made of cloudpine) that makes her er...fly or something. ^^;; That's interesting. But I dunno if I like this or hate it. =

It's a bird, it's a plane... :D

I love how they fly! Their bows ARE the cloud pine! I like the idea and also it makes sense, how can they fight and steer their cloud pine at the same if they're sat on it...

i kno she does not fiy on a broom but she flys on pine wood..........

I have no idea what y'all are talking about, but I think it's kind of funny so please, do go on! :)

I like how they changed the cloudpine branch and combined it with the witches bows, sitting on a pine branch while flying through the air in battle would look rather silly.. As you can see in the new trailer, the way the witches now fly is very striking and dramatic, instead of looking prim and proper riding side saddle on a tree branch. What works on paper doesn't always work on film.

on thw scenes we've seen so far, I personally think it looks completly unreal... but dunno if it will work on screen... I completly prefered cloudpine
andria: on 05/24/2007
yep.that is definably cloud pine
Lyra_B_S: on 05/24/2007
I think she should ride the cloud pine, like in Harry Potter films (oops!)
Chris: on 05/24/2007
in think using bows made of cloud pine is a brilliant idea! otherwise the actors would have too mnay props and it would make the flying looks awkward. however when i read the books i never really saw the witches riding the cloud pine, just sort of having it gave them the power of flight. i think i saw it that way because it is mesnioned at one point hat they simple snapped a bit of cloudpine of a tree and took off. i sort of just saw them holding a bit, or even using a branch sort of like a surf board and standing on it whilst fighting. lol! so using cloud pine as a bow to me work just brilliantly.

Lol- so she flies like Superman?! Other than the name change (which still annoys me- the least they could have done was to have subtitled it 'His Dark Materials', or else not that many people in the UK are going to realise its provenance), this is the other bit of the film that has disappointed me. Other than that, it looks very promising; in particular, Fra Pavel's use of the word 'heresy' suggests to me that there will be a religious element in it after all....

She looks like a man here.

The witches just fly threw the air. Though not the imagine I had in mind, this new and quite striking.
McVinster: on 06/20/2007
The witches would look better sat on the cloud pine, and firing their bows from there. Flying like this makes them look like Supergirls and a lot less graceful than if they were perched all neat and side-saddle on a branch of cloud pine.
Me initialy says poo to this idea, as it kinda seems to spoil the mood of the characters.

I don't like it. she looks like Peter Pan. I liked the idea of them flying on the cloud pine because it makes them seem more poised perfectly balanced. They are able to control the cloudpine without using their hand and fight and shoot a bow accurately. This way, they seem more like the angels because they can fly without using anything.
: on 07/16/2007
oops. poised and perfectly balanced.
Belle: on 08/22/2007
Very unique prop use- I like it, but it seems as if she could fly without it anyhow-
Ama: on 09/03/2007
Well it won't be so hard now for Lyra to pick out which cloud-pine branch is Serafina's. Just the one that looks like a bow! *shakes head*
GrantoHolsy: on 09/04/2007
If they had ahd her flying on a branch then they would only get comparisons with Harry Potter which has done the whole broomstick thing already.
Anyway i think this is much cooler anyway and makes her seem more dangerous or powerful - something like that. I like it!!!

It took me a while to get used to this image of Serafina, because I pictured her with the blond hair and green eyes look- but this looks good too. I understand the whole cloud pine thing, it does make it look much more dramatic like this.
