Definatly Tony. This shot is adorable- amazing detail and great costumes. Tony looks like he is described in the book. Plus the actor playing Roger has freckles and a cheeky grin, looks nothing like this boy.

Heartbreaking but I thought Lyra was supposed to be small for her age and all the other children ive seen her with have been shorter than her. The clothes are exactly how I imagined them though.

These clothes are not at all practicle with the climate or area of the world in which this scene is supposed to take place. They're a bit too "Hollywood-ized" and more designed to be pretty rather than practicle. I absolutly love the expression on the childrens' faces, though. Phenomenal!

I like this- but I'm not sure where it actually is. Aren't lyras furs meant to be very very thick and high quality. Also stinking and tattered. Not looking like a second from New look. I love the anonymous boy in this scene though.

I'd say Lyra started out as 11 in TNL/TGC Then either near the end of TGC or near the begining of TSK she turned 12. By TAS Ithink she definitely turned 13 at somepoint as it said about Mrs Coulter feeling "As warm and light in Lord Asriels arms as she had when Lyra was concieved 13 years earlier". I know this could count the 9 months before she was born but I think PP woudn't have bothered putting it in otherwise. I think he wanted it as a kind of metaphor to emphasise her growing into adolesence.

I'd just like to set a few things straight here. I deffinetly read, though i will be damed if i can remember where, that it was a confirmed fact that Tony Makarios was cut from the movie and instead, Billy Costa would be the boy whom Lyra and Iroek find with his daemon cut away. This makes sense to me because Tony is such an irrelevant character. It will be more effective and emotional in the movie to have Lyra finding the young son of the gypian family who take her in dont you think. More effective for the movie. For example the audience who hasnt read the books will be hard pushed to care bout Tony when he is introduced and then killed in the space of 5 minutes. On the other hand Billy could be introduced early on in Oxford and then their is the fact that his family is the one that has been looking after Lyra. So dont be angry about it, because it makes sense and will carry much more emotional weight. It will help make it a better movie. As for the people concerned about the absence of their Daemons, well if the above is true then Tony has no Daemon then - doh - as for Pan, well this is only a still shot and he could be out of shot or he could be hiding in Lyras clothes, which you seem to be forgetting is a regular occurence in the books. You dont honestly think that in every single shot of Lyra in the movie Pan will also be visable. Do have any idea how much special effects work that would require. Be reasonable for heavens sake. Hope that settles a few things. I'm still trying to find out where that report was and if i do i shall post the link, but it deffintley said it was confirmed, and in that light this picture makes perfect sense. If you read the scene in the book again you will see that Tony was only wearing light clothes and freezing when Lyra finds him.
