yeah, is day, for sure. there a shot that show us lyra and asriel, and she is with the same dress that she is in this photo with him, in day light. he too is with the same clothe. i think that is about her asking to him to take her in his trip to north. i dont think that every detail that appears on the book have to turn to the films all the same, line by line, but this details bores me a little cause dont cust nothing for them put this scene in the night. i think that for saving time they will do everything in just one day; the asriel visit, the dissapereance of roger, the dinner with miss coulter. well, thats ok, lets wait MORE.

I think it is night and the light is coming from him showing them a projection, not from a window. Doesnt' Lord Asriel show them some projected images?

yes ender, but we can see dakota in that picture that shows her walking on the chairs, and its day in that take, and its very probably that this scene is the first one, the scene that she enters in the retiring room, a few minutes before the projection stuff begins. later we see dakota and craig together in the outside in daylight, both with the same clothes (she with the red-blue dress and he with the same clothe that appears in the retiring room shot). i expect that when he will show the projection, a cortain closed the light or something, cause i always imagined this part in a completely dark room.

I imagine that the lighting will be altered in post-production. They want to be able to see everyone clearly in the first take so they can then focus on certain characters in certain ways with night time lighting afterwards.

I think it is important to remember that the books and the movies are going to be 2 different mediums. We should give the film people the benefit of the doubt that they are not trying to mess up the movie. We should give them some slack and respect their artistic choices.

Yes, but all the same, people do need to be more accepting and not be so anal over things like eye color, and time of day. Especially when they are based on pictures. Wait at least until a trailer is released. Then one is entitled to complain a little. You shall gain full right to complain once you see the movie. yeah i guess we assume it's night in the book coz the scene occurs in conjunction with the evening meal doesn't it? and yeah i kinda imagined it to be dingier, smokier - lit dimly by nampha lamps - the mood seems a little off. But agreed.. we have to trust that creative choices have been made to serve the rendering and flow of the film as a whole so we shouldn't get upset about isolated things such as this - especially when a certain degree of guesswork is being employed!

Well, you've made quite a point there! (seriuosly, you have) I know exactly what you're talking about, But, there are a few things I want to bring to thr forefront. I have no doubt that the books are great, I've heard nothing but goos about them, so anyway, if the producers couldn't possibly make this AMAZING book into a movie, then what's the harm. If anything else it will intrest more people to go and actually read the book, and since not everything that is in the book can make it into the movie they will still be surprised, and the suspence will still be there. As for the characters, I know when I see a movie then go read the book it was based off of, I keep the movie characters in my mind that I liked, and make new characters for the ones I didn't like. Have more faith in people to make the book their own. I think that the movie will only do good things for the book, it will open it up to a whole new audience that would have never given it a second glance otherwise. Be positive oh ye of little faith! ;)

Oh i agree it wont be AS good as the book i still think it will be good as a film (i hope) but for those of us who have read the book before the film we will have experienced the passion of the characters and the story line, regardless of whether the film was good or not. It will only be different if you LET your image of the book be changed by the film. You said you have done some fan art which should help keep your image :)

Woah! Don't get yourself all freaked out that much over something like this. It's OK. 'The Golden Compass' is being picked up in book stores and libraries everyday without the movie, and will continue to be read after the movie. When the movie goes out of the theatres it will go back to the way it was before. I really don't think that the movie will that greatly effect the literary stance and following of the book that greatly. It didn't happen with the Harry Potter sieries which is way more well known (no offense). Just chill, I really don't think you have anything to worry about.

Yes I have read the Harry Potter books, but that's not where I got my name... if that's what you're wondering. I got my name from where I go to summer camp. I go to camp in Texas, and the whole "indian tribe" thing is pretty big there, so the camp is split up into 2 teams that take the names of 2 indian tribes and compete throughout the term for pooints. It's a pretty big deal actually, and totally fun! I love it, I have been going for 6 years, 7 in July! :) Anyway, the 2 tribes are the Tonkawas (Tonks for short) and the Kiowas-BOOOO Kiowas >:( - as you can probably tell I am a very spirited, very proud TONK!!! :) T.K.A.
