Ah! I wondered how they were going to get around the singularly uncinematic scene of Lyra hiding in the roof...

I don't think Lyra hiding in the roof would have been uncinematic actually. I think it would have worked better!!! But also, how on earth can lyra hide underneath a table, what with all the daemons?

This is really strange...we will see...but I don't understand how she can hide here....and all the daemons?? Hope we get a good response!

i get the idea that everything is supposed to look very temporary, artificial, and sterile, so plastic fights right in.

Maybe because some of the people already had the cut?

It's a very strange hiding place. They could see her for sure! They are blind or something? (I mean this people and their deamons).

Yeah I can picture it working quite well with her in the ceiling and doing a kind of divided frame look. But maybe this is something for time too as well as to make her facial expressions clearer.

Do you think they replaced the ceiling scene for this? Or maybe she just fell down...

It seems that this scene is completely implausible.
For one, who the hell hides under a table (which looks like patio furniture, might I add) with people sitting around it? Not Lyra, certainly. She's too clever for that.
Secondly, that looks like Mrs. Coulter on the left, in which case the concept of the daemons not noticing her is ridiculous.

Tell me this isn't replacing the ceiling scene. (Her face seems to suggest that it will though.) That would just be too pitiful on so many levels, there are so many things right here that clash with how I saw that. To me the furniture was more permanent-looking, despite the whole sterile-plastic-metallic thing. Not patio furniture. And that's such a stupid hiding place! *sigh*

We don't know anything yet! Maybe she had already been hiding under that table when suddenly the "doctors" came in. And maybe The Golden Monkey saw her but Coulter decided against revealing her own daughter. I mean she does know what happens to bad children in Bolvangar doesn't she?

I'm just guessing, I'm not entirely sure.

I think the table is a flaw. It's plastic designer style.

the people on the right looks the doctor and nurses, and don't the nurses don't have daemons? Mrs Coulter's monkey is nearly always on her shoulder, and Pan, wasn't he a mouse in lyra's pocket quite a lot?

in the book.. lyra hides under the table. as there is no where else to hide.
the nurses and their daemons have been parted ( the invisable connection has been cut) so they no longer listen to them. ( in the book a nurses terrior daemon starts barking at lyra and pan, but the nurse does not listen.

Ms coutler's daemon is on her shoulder.

they took out the whole brilliant ceiling pannels bit!!!!!!!

Yeah they did use this too replace the ceiling scene! i was really ticked because they cut a lot of the stuff out that was supposed to be there! : ( They didnt even put the ending to the movie in here its going to be at the beginning of the next film!!!! A lot of the movie was out of order too!
But the movie is ok.
