We like it here. Mild climate, as much free bread as we can eat, many coffee shops nearby and ready access to the M4 and Heathrow airport.

Ok, a few more, slightly different theme.. I got inspired to add these, and dedicate them to Alexandra, as I had dreams of doing Astronomy for a living once...til I realized I did not have the brain of Carl Sagan.. so I just stuck to looking at them

This is a long exposure, quite late at night.. The clouds are not lit by the sun, but by the moon which is behiind the shed on the left.

This one shows a capture of the International Space Station going over.. about a 20 second exposure.

A longer exposure to show off the star trails, shot against an old shed to give the sense of movement.

The Cango Caves and and Ostrich farm in Oudtshoorn. The little ostich is apparently the world's smallest. We rode the ostrichs, which is why they have saddles and little masks.



Feeding elephants at Knysna



Whale-watching trip. You can't tell from the photo but we were srrounded by literally thousands of dolphins all swimming somewhere. It was amazing.

This is the space shuttle Discovery and the International Space Station rising over my local mountain. The photo is about a 2 minute exposure so they stand out against the star trails. Discovery recently undocked from the station and was about one minute ahead of it.

I have no idea what the horizontal line is - it is not in the large version!

Some pictures that I took while walking about Reykjavik today:



Swans and ducks and all kinds of other birds flocked to the promise of breadcrumbs.



Old house being renovated. The Hallgrímskirkja, a Lutheran parish church in Reykjavik, the tallest church in Iceland, and also formerly the overall tallest architectural structure at earth shattering 76.5m/244ft!

At the price of rudely double-posting, I just wanted to upload the pictures I took today, of the ships and sights of the Festival of the Sea locations I saw as I went bicycling.



Looking towards the older Reykjavik harboursite and downtown area. | A small white beach with some interesting rocks! | Viðey.


One of only two locomotives to have ever seen active use in Iceland in the 20th century. Its name is Minør (Minor). | The French anti-submarine frigate Latouche-Tréville, there were open tours to see its interior, but I have seen my fill of navy vessel interiors in the past.


ICGV Týr (Tyr) | Retired ICGV Óðinn (Odinn) | All kinds of ships and boats gathered in the harbour.
