M: Possible Casting for The Subtle Knife
Hey evreryone. Yes I know its pretty sure that the project will not go ahead, but whats the harm in dreaming. What would be your ideal cast for the next Film in the 'His Dark Materials' trilogy.

pretty sure? I don't think so.
##########
So interesting new characters would be
Will's father:
I think somewhere hiere Gary Oldman was suggested. Not bad.
Then we have Dr. Mary Malone:
Kate Winslet or so would be great.

My top choices for...
John Parry: Clive Owen, Ralph Fiennes, Paul Bettany or a less known actor
Mary Malone: Emma Thompson, or some other less known actress who fits the part obviously
Will Parry: Another unknown, open auditions like they did for Lyra; I'm goin for the part so watch out world.
And, if Sir Charles hadn't already been cast: Brian Cox, ALL THE WAY!!! But I just hope this other guy they have is good.
Honestly, I've become hopeful that they stop using as many big named actors... they have enough already!! The few actors and actresses I truly hope get into the trilogy are: Clive Owen and Paul Bettany (whom I think would both work splendidly as either John Parry or the Angels, but I'm pushing for the Angels.)

Ladies and gentlemen, Mary Malone:
And I second Clive Owen for Will's father.

Rachel Weitz would be OKAY, but again, she's too pretty. She's one of my favorite actresses, but her look doesn't scream MARY MALONE to me. If she were cast, I wouldn't complain too much, but I'd rather they just hire a lesser known actress.

Re: Possible Casting for The Subtle Knife
oh puh-lease! I always pictured Dr Malone as a blondeish grey woman approaching a mid-life crisis. Besides I doubt Kate Winslet will be availiable for TSK.Ladies and gentlemen, Mary Malone:
And I second Clive Owen for Will's father.
So my casts:
Stan Grumman/John Parry: Gary Oldman.
Dr Malone: if no middle age-looking people availiable, then perhaps Catherine Tate with a little help from our friends at the makeup dept. (i suspect i may get some abuse for that)
Big blond guy: If Jeremy Clarkson is availiable, again with some help from the makeup dpt. (more abuse)
Tullio: rupert grint
I'll make an edit as soon as i find more names.

I'm with you on that one... that's why I think Emma Thompson is sooo perfect!oh puh-lease! I always pictured Dr Malone as a blondeish grey woman approaching a mid-life crisis. Besides I doubt Kate Winslet will be availiable for TSK.Ladies and gentlemen, Mary Malone:

I rest my case.
He'd be fine, but not an ideal image for me.
So my casts:
Stan Grumman/John Parry: Gary Oldman.
Won't happen... and for that matter, it shouldn't.Tullio: rupert grint

Hey we have Nicole Kidman so Mary Malone can't be just played by anyone.
Rachel Weisz wouldn't be bad.

Well, Emma Thompson isn't exactly a B-list actress...

Yes, of course, but I haven't wrote it refering to her.

OK, I think Kate Winslet could have a role-as Ruta Skadi. But nothing else.

House for Grumman? Are you nuts? You think he looks like he used to be a rugged Marine? He looks like he fell off a pub stool. Viggo all the way. But I have to admit, Clive Owen is also a great choice, fantastic in Children Of Men. Why not Rachel Weisz for Mary Malone? Good actress, and what's wrong with some eye candy?

All fairly hilarious, to be honest.Dr Malone: If no middle age-looking people availiable, then perhaps Catherine Tate with a little help from our friends at the makeup dept. (i suspect i may get some abuse for that)
Big blond guy: If Jeremy Clarkson is availiable, again with some help from the makeup dpt. (more abuse)
Tullio: Rupert Grint
Catherine Tate: No.
Jeremy Clarkson: Definitely not.
Rupert Grint: Not bad, actually.

thankyou for your support :sarcasm:
I've looked for Weisz and i have four words for that verdict.
HAVE YOU GONE MAD?
She just doesn't look like a failed scientist.

Viggo isn't dark enough... I actually think Hugh Laurie would be fantastic as well. I almost want Clive Owen to be cast as Balthamos more than Will's father, but either one would be great!House for Grumman? Are you nuts? You think he looks like he used to be a rugged Marine? There's a lot wrong with eye candy when it comes to Mary Malone. The character is not meant to be viewed as "eye candy". While Rachel Weitz would be fine, I agree with ifonly... that she would make a better Ruta Skadi. She seems too young and lively a soul to be Mary.

Re: Possible Casting for The Subtle Knife
I am very skeptical that The Subtle Knife will ever be made into a movie, but I still think that the only one who could portray Mary Malone is none other than Caroline Quentin!
(As I was reading the books, she was always the one I pictured as Mary Malone..)

Re: Possible Casting for The Subtle Knife
I reckon around a 40 year old actor would be good for John Parry. It mentions that he had some grey hair in TSK.
"We have to build the Republic of Heaven where we are, because for us there is no elsewhere."
'A swirl of cloudy colors seemed to live just under the surface of the metal: bruise purples, sea blues, earth browns, cloud grays, the deep green under heavy-foliaged trees, the clustering shades at the mouth of a tomb as evening falls over a deserted graveyard.... If there was such a thing as shadow-colored, it was the blade of the subtle knife.'

Got to agree with Shadowparticles888. Im thinking long(ish), Dark (slightly Grey) hair and a face that looks like hes had a harsh life...no? yes? maybe?...know any actors that would suit that role?...
Yo yo! I'm currently the forums least quickest poster. ... Probably.
