This ending sucked. I would've loved your ending on the movie. Why did they cut the original ending? Coz the original is what leads into TSK, and how she walks along the bridge into Citagazze, and how she meets Will in TSK. I hope that if they make a new movie that they wont cut the ending, where Will finds out that Lyra is gone.

I wouldn't be so fussed about them messing around with the order of events in TSK and TAS (in the unlikely event they're ever made). They're far less tightly structured books than NL and the last two make up one large story where NL is more stand-alone.

Love it, Energy...AND you've used a favourite piece of music at the end (Samuel Barber's Adagio for Strings); after I finished TAS for the first time, this and other pieces on a disc (from a three-disc set called Requiem) perfectly reflected how I felt at the time (miserable). It still gets to me, especially seeing it with that footage.

*Sigh* What could have been...

Thanks...

but no i haven't used that music... o_0

There's 3 tracks used, only two of which I placed on the video, the other was already there.
First track is one directly from the TGC soundtrack, the next one is a track called children of dune which has recently been used for the indiana jone, narnia, and golden compass trailers (tho is a hard track to find), and the final track that is played when the bridge opens is a track from the romeo and juliet soundtrack (which the title escapes me right now, but it is the love theme, not barber's adagio which is one of my favourite tracks too :) )

I just noticed this:

The clip from the actual film with a CGI Pantalaimon flying off of the collapsing clifftop seems a bit late. Doesn't he have Salcilia in his beak there? Wouldn't this clip be better of in the part where you have the original storyboard drawings of Pan and Salcilia flying around?

That was mentioned earlier, that scene has been changed in the updated version. However its placement still isn't set in stone. The problem is that this is obviously somewhere where the preview and the film vary wildly, as the Golden Monkey is already there. Which makes me feel weird the idea that both Lord Asriel and Mrs Coultler are involved in opening the door way. I have currently got it in the section where children of dune is playing but it's one of the hardest clips to place without seeing more context of the clip.

Has anyone got or seen any more clips, even if they're still images please get them to me :)

One of the movie books says that a sheet of ice breaks between Lyra and Mrs. Coulter at the end of the movie, separating them and forcing Lyra to enter the other world. The scene that you're mentioning likely takes place after Roger is killed.

Oops...I should have listened to the above-mentioned CD again before posting; those two tracks are adjacent on the album, and they do sound a bit similar (just a bit...). According to the sleeve notes, it's The Balcony Scene (from the film), produced and mixed by Craig Armstrong. It also says it is from his album "The Space Between".

Looking at the storyboard elements, did it look to you like Roger's not quite dead yet? Were they thinking that they could get through all three films without anybody dying? (It's just a flesh wound...)

Hmm, interesting question. Looking through the movie tie-in products, nothing says Roger actually dies. I know you can't take these things as gospel, but he "disappears" ... "was gone" ... "daemon exploded in a vivid burst of light" ... and that even "Lyra goes to search for Roger in other worlds".
So tell me now, o tell me this: a forest’s son, a river’s daughter, a willow wand, a will-o-wisp.

As we've discussed, it's not in the video. Australis got slightly confused on the tracklist of a CD. Barber Adagio for strings is worth hearing though. It's in loads of films, games, and other things. The track he was talking about was the love theme from romeo and juliet.

-----

Just so you guys know, I've up'd the ante on this one... I've started working on a full 'fan cut' of the film. as best as I can. Rough change list so far/planned:

[*] Film events in correct order
[*] alternative joining scenes sourced from the game (audio remastered to remove dialogue)
[*] improved restored ending placed on the end of the film
[*] A few extra planned scenes placed here and there (added retiring lines of dialogue, working on adding 'she looked like she'd never seen a persons daemon before' scene but flow and audio are currently a bit all over)
[*] possibly a few cuts
(stuff like removing the master saying 'also sometimes known as a golden compass')

Any doable requests for this alternate version of the film?
I need help cataloging shots and stuff, not just deleted shots, but also alternate takes (such as the 'You believe she is that child?'). I'm still after images of the ending scene, but to keep the quality for the rest of the film video only please. Although I keep finding nice images of unused scenes, such as ones of the dinner scene in London. So please help :D

I'm even after shots that still only have green screen, while I won't be able to get them to the level that they are in the rest of the film I maybe able to do something with them to make them not stand out too much. So if you have a making of on video, or rare trailers, please give a shout!

Talking of music for this video, can you get hold of the original film score and cut and paste bits into the soundtrack for your clips?

There's a 2-second greenscreened clip of Daniel Craig holding a rifle, reeling backwards from something and looking up at the sky -- presumably, after he sets off the device -- on the second disc of the DVD. It's shot from the right side, slightly from the back. Sadly, I forgot which special it was.

Yes - i already do this in the ending video. The problem is that clips sometimes have their own music in... which can cause problems if you want to keep vocals and sound effects

Few questions about the ending you have up on youtube

Is the first shot in the mountains from the actual movie? (one of the trailers?)

Where did the footage of the Blimp chasing Iorek come from? I've never seen it in any trailer or anything of the sort.

and finally, where is all the footage of the aurora from? Is it fan made or something?

As an aside, I wonder what the running time of the complete final act that was cut from the movie is. 20 to 25 minutes? 15? Who knows...

Pretty much all the shots you asked about appear in the pre-production video. This is an half an hour video that very quickly runs through the golden compass, full of test shots, storyboards, and pre production paintings. It was made by the film company to entice movie insiders to the film. Although the shots you mentioned also appear in the 'Sizzle Reel', which was the first leaked trailer.

As for the full length, no one knows. I'd say it's probably 15-20 minutes. There's a lot of missing dialogue in my version. So twice as much. So who knows! :D

i love the montage effect, how it's done with footage and storyboard and game clips - was some of that the audiobook? altogether brilliant, it would make the film 10 times better if that had been included.
