I think any representation of Lyra would be OK. If statue there is, it does not have to have BDR's face or anyone's face in particular. Any of us has its own representation of Lyra, and the artist's vision for Lyra's face would be sufficient. Yes, a life-size statye that would be great. Something like in Cornmarket, or Broad street (the one going in front of the Bodleian, i'm not sure this is the right one). The Botanic Garden ? Why not, but people would have to pay to see it, which is quite disapointing...
@Ian : yes, Pullman received Oxford's freedom. February 2007, it seems.

It could be in the garden, or somewhere else, but definitely not sitting down! That would miss the point completely.

That actually sounds like a good idea: A real size statue of Lyra and Will standing by the bench. That way, the bench wouldn't be "hijacked," as Jessia complained. I also like the idea of a statue of Lyra in Jericho, by the channel. It could be in the garden, or somewhere else, but definitely not sitting down! That would miss the point completely.

Re: Oxford needs a Lyra statue
I never thought that would be asked from the government. The City Council would have to approve in case it was placed at a public place, of course. The Botanic Garden, on the other hand, belong to the University, which should also give its approval, but not necessarily fund it. I assume the funds would be raised by a trust which could be promoted by the Oxford Literary Festival and the Oxford bookshops, for instance. Of course I can imagine people asking why isn't there a similar monument of Alice [in Wonderland]. She has her little store, though.I don't know if the govrement are willing to make a monument of a book that has been acused of beeing anti-christian. Sadly. :/
